Week 5 Quarterback Rankings Outlooks
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is expected to have a strong rebound in Week 5 at home against the Washington Commanders. Herbert's recent performance was impacted by multiple drops from his receivers, limited playing time, and a collapsing pocket against the New York Giants. This resulted in only 203 passing yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and the Chargers' first loss of the season.
However, the Commanders present a good chance for recovery, as they rank 27th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (248.5 per game). While star tackle Joe Alt (ankle) is out with a high ankle sprain, the possible return of veteran guard Mekhi Becton (concussion) should help stabilize the interior.
Expect the Chargers to be much more cohesive at SoFi Stadium. RotoBaller projects Herbert as QB3 for this week. Fantasy managers should anticipate a bounce-back game and consider him a top-tier QB1.
Jaxson Dart, New York Giants
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has an excellent matchup in Week 5 after a solid NFL debut, where he led the Giants to a 21-18 victory over the Chargers. His dual-threat ability was on full display as he threw for 111 yards and a touchdown while adding 54 yards and another score on the ground.
This week, he faces a Saints defense that, despite being sixth-best in passing yards allowed per game (177.0), has been extremely vulnerable to fantasy quarterbacks, ranking as the 28th-best defense against them by allowing an average of 20.6 fantasy points per game. New Orleans has surrendered nine passing touchdowns, the second-most in the league, and its 30th-ranked red zone defense could provide ample scoring opportunities for the rookie.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (knee) practiced in full every day this week and will return as the starter in Week 5 against the Chargers. Daniels banged up his knee in Washington's Week 2 loss at Green Bay and missed the following two weeks, where veteran Marcus Mariota filled in admirably. Daniels will be without his top two outside receivers as Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin) are both ruled out again for Sunday's game.
Daniels will reportedly wear a brace on his injured knee, which may limit his running frequency. The star second-year quarterback faces a tough matchup in his return to play, facing a Los Angeles Chargers defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest total points scored and third-fewest yards allowed. Daniels still ranks as a solid QB1 for Week 5.
Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold checks in as a streamer in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Darnold has found consistency as the Seahawks' quarterback with three straight performances hovering around 16.5 fantasy points. While those types of numbers will not win you your week, it is a great boost to your roster if you are having quarterback issues due to injuries or bye weeks. Darnold has been very efficient this season. He has only turned the ball over three times, and he is completing 70% of his passes.
The Buccaneers have been generous to opposing quarterbacks in fantasy. They are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Darnold should have a fine day this weekend. If the Bucs make this a very competitive game, then it is likely that the Seahawks' passing volume will increase as well. That would make Darnold even more valuable in Week 5. Fire him up with confidence.
Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton will need a good game out of quarterback Bo Nix this week to best the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles defense. After coming off a 326-yard outing last week, Nix should keep his confidence rolling in a game that will be a great test for him this season.
The Eagles are 15th in passing defense, allowing 215 yards per game through the air, while 21st against the run, allowing 126 rushing yards per game. With bye weeks and injuries, Nix is a solid start and should produce this week against the Eagles. As RotoBaller’s 10th-ranked quarterback this week, feel free to start Nix with confidence as a low-end QB1.

Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young hasn't been able to find much success early in the season. Young posted a 328-yard performance in Week 2, but has been quiet outside of that. In his other three games, Young has been held to 154 passing yards or less.
The Panthers' offense isn't clicking right now, but they do get a favorable matchup in Week 5. They'll go up against the shaky Miami Dolphins secondary this weekend. Sadly, this offense lacks the necessary weapons to perform consistently. Young will offer low-end QB2 value for this weekend.
Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cameron Ward has experienced an ugly beginning to his professional career. Ward has been held to 175 passing yards or less in three of the first four games of the season. The 23-year-old looked lost last week when he completed 10-of-26 passing attempts for 108 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception in the loss.
The potential is certainly there, but something big needs to change in Tennessee. That being said, Ward is an extremely risky fantasy option for the upcoming Week 5 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
