FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (5/5/19): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Troy Klauder highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 5/5/19, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

Today's main slate starts at 1:05 pm eastern and covers eight games. There's also an all-day slate at 1:05 pm which covers all 15 matchups.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel on 5/5/2019. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

You can also read more DFS lineup picks for DraftKings and other sports too. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @TroyKlauder

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Rick Porcello: BOS at CWS ($7,400)

Porcello is coming off of a fantastic start against the Athletics where he went eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and just two hits. While his 5.52 ERA for the year still looks ugly, he's got a 2.29 ERA over his last three starts with a 0.97 WHIP. If Porcello continues to pitch at this level, he will be a strong value play at this price against the White Sox. Porcello is away from hitter-friendly Fenway Park and has added strikeout upside against a Chicago lineup that strikes out 25.6% of the time against righties.

Drew Smyly: TEX vs TOR ($5,700)

I wouldn't touch Smyly in cash games, but he may actually a worthwhile play in GPP contests. Smyly is not a good pitcher, but he could be able to have a decent start against the Blue Jays, who have just a .282 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Nobody else will be touching Smyly, so he will certainly be a contrarian play, and you can load up your lineup with elite hitters because of Smyly's price. Smyly could get torched in this outing, but if he can just have a competent start, he will provide value.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Peter Alonso - IB, NYM at MIL ($4,000)

Alonso already has nine home runs this year and has the chance to add more in an extreme hitter's park in Milwaukee. Opposing starter Zach Davies hasn't been nearly as good as his ERA would suggest, as he's got just a 15.4% K-rate with a 5.27 SIERA. Expect him to regress at the hands of Alonso and the Mets.

Jose Altuve - 2B, HOU at LAA ($3,800)

Altuve's recent cold spell has caused his price to dip, but he's obviously still an elite fantasy talent and should be treated as such. The Astros lineup should tee off on Matt Harvey, owner of a 6.54 ERA, so Altuve will see plenty of run opportunities batting second. Altuve is sporting a career-high 10.3% walk-rate and is getting killed by a .231 BABIP, so he should rebound in no time.

Eugenio Suarez - 3B, CIN vs SF ($3,500)

Suarez always has lots of power upside when he's at home in a hitter-friendly environment in Cincinnati - he homered on Saturday, giving him five over the last two weeks. I like Suarez in GPP contests as a power flier.

Francisco Lindor - SS, CLE vs SEA ($3,600)

Lindor also homered yesterday and is an attractive option thanks to his top tier power/speed combo. He has a high floor batting leadoff for the Indians, as he will be able to maximize his number of plate appearances against Mariners starter Erik Swanson. Swanson got shelled for six earned runs last time out, so an entire Indians stack with Lindor is definitely a strategy to consider.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Andrew McCutchen - OF, PHI vs WAS ($3,900)

McCutchen is a player to look at in cash games, as his .371 OBP out of the Phillies leadoff spot makes him one of the safest candidates to produce on the slate. Opposing starter Anibal Sanchez has a 5.91 ERA, and Cutch will be facing him in a hitter's park in Philadelphia.

Tommy Pham - OF, TB at BAL ($3,900)

The Rays get one last day to mash in Baltimore, this time facing John Means. Means outperformed his 4.48 FIP and is susceptible to homers with his 1.40 HR/9. Pham has as many walks as he does strikeouts this year, on top of four homers and six steals. He has been one of fantasy's most electric players and can be considered in all contests.
