DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (9/01/23): Today's Top MLB DFS Lineups

gleyber torres fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers shortstop MLB injury news

The top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on September 01, 2023. Dawn Tepper's MLB DFS analysis and sleepers for building optimal DFS rosters.

I don't know about you, RotoBallers, but I am ready for a long weekend of barbeques and baseball, kicking it off today with a 14-game slate. We have a Coors game, and while the ownership will certainly be on the higher side for the Rockies, it hasn't been as high as usual these last few games. One explanation is that they have a... wait for it... 67 wRC+ over the last 30 days, and over their last ten games, they are slashing .218/.275/.346.

All that said, this is the exact spot to target them in tournaments. The ownership will still be a bit higher than it should be because it's  Coors, but if you are in a large-field tournament, targeting a few Rockies instead of Blue Jays will give you leverage. Another tournament stack I'm looking at is Minnesota versus Max Scherzer in Texas. Yes, Scherzer is 11-5 for the season with a 3.75 ERA and 3.94 xFIP, but the Twins have a 119 wRC+ and a .207 ISO. If Scherzer has a shaky start, the Minnesota bats will make some noise.

This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 9/01/2023 and the slate locking at 7:05 p.m. ET. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports here. Monitoring injury news and today's MLB starting lineups is also essential. Now that we got all that out of the way, it's onto the picks! DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Hyun Jin Ryu, TOR @ COL ($6,300 DK, $8,200 FD)

Left-hander Ryu is facing a Rockies team that has seen their numbers tumble over the last thirty days, with a 67 wRC+ and .151 ISO. They are slashing .232/.288/.380 versus lefties, .242/.301/.384 versus the American League and have a 26% K rate for the season. Ryu is 3-1 in his last five starts with a 2.25 ERA and 3.74 xFIP. Ryu should get the win tonight, and his price on DK will help sneak in some other big bats from tonight's slate.

Cole Irvin, BAL @ ARI ($5,200 DK, $6,200 FD)

Lefty Irvin and the O's face the third-place Diamondbacks in Arizona tonight, where the Snakes are slashing .246/.313/.393 versus left-handed pitchers. Irvin has a 17.3% strikeout rate but is facing a team with a wRC+ of 91 and a .144 ISO. He has a .250 ERA over his last five starts, and at his $5,200 price tag, this is a value pitcher I will be using in my lineups tonight.

When targeting pitchers for tournaments on slates this large, I stick to pitchers under $10,000 (DK). We will have 28 pitchers to choose from tonight, and I guarantee that a few of them will surprise us and help take down a tournament.

Also consider Max Fried, Max Scherzer, Eury Perez, Mitch Keller

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Gleyber Torres - 2B, NYY vs. Jason Verlander ($4,500 DK, $3,300 FD)

Torres and the Yankees face Verlander in Houston tonight, who has gone 5-0 in his last five starts with a 2.79 ERA. Now you're thinking, "Um, so why are we targeting Torres and the Bombers?". I'll tell you why: Torres is slashing .333/.455/.944 in his last five games, and in four games versus Houston this year, he is batting .571/.667/.1.71 with eight hits, two home runs, and three RBI.

The Bombers have hit back-to-back homers for the third time in the past four games. During Wednesday's game, Giancarlo Stanton and Torres hit two consecutive shots in the fourth inning. Torres has also been performing exceptionally well, with a batting average of .340 this month. His performance is undoubtedly contributing to the recent success of New York's offense.

Rafael Devers - 3B, BOS vs. Jordan Lyles ($5,600 DK, $3,800 FD)

Devers is a lefty facing a righty, and that is enough for me to roster him in any of my lineups. Oh, you need more? Ok, here's more: In 60 days on the road this year, Devers is slashing .259/.331/.539 with 18 home runs and 46 RBI. Post All-Star break, he is batting .297/.377/.534; versus righties, he is .269/.352/.504. A classic "don't overthink it" spot. Roster him tonight versus Lyles and the Royals.

Isaac Paredes - 3B, TB vs. Cal Quantrill ($4,500 DK, $3,300 FD)

Righty Paredes is facing righty Quantrill, and Paredes' reverse splits have him slashing .256/.356/.531 against right-handed pitchers. With runners in scoring position, Paredes is .293/.380/.561; at night, .295/.387/.629. On the road, he is .262/.360/.491.

Now, on to Quantrill. He is 2-6 for the season with a 6.45 ERA and 5.38 xFIP. Tampa Bay will be hitting home runs at Progressive Field tonight. They cooled off a bit after a hot start to the season, but things are picking back up, and for the season, they have a .183 ISO and 141 wRC+. Versus righties, Tampa Bay has a .194 ISO. Lock in Paredes in your Rays stacks tonight versus Quantrill in Cleveland.

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Chas McCormick - OF, HOU vs. Rodon ($3,200 DK, $2,400 FD)

McCormick is slashing .356/.420/.663 versus left-handed pitchers this season, with eight home runs and 20 RBI. Rodon has a 5.97 ERA and a 5.84 xFIP, which means I'm expecting McCormick and the Astros to score runs tonight against the lefty. Houston has a 144 wRC+ and a .198 ISO, striking out just 15% of the time.

Houston is one of my favorite stacks tonight versus Rodon. The 'Stros are second in the AL West and are on a five-game winning streak. Rodon has a 5.97 ERA and a 5.84 xFIP, and both of those numbers will equal quality at-bats for Houston tonight.

Matt Wallner - OF, MIN vs. Max Scherzer ($3,200 DK, $2,700 FD)

Scherzer is always going to be tough, especially since his move to the Rangers seems to have galvanized him, going 2-1 in his last five starts with a 2.64 ERA. For the season, Wallner is slashing .230/.348/.504, and versus right-handed pitchers, he is 250/.386/.537 with eight home runs and 23 RBI.

I mentioned Minnesota at the beginning of this article as a sneaky tournament stack, and Wallner will be a central part of those stacks.

Ryan O'Hearn - OF, BAL vs. Zach Davies ($4,600 DK, $3,600 FD)

Baltimore is back and breaking hearts around the league with their 128 wRC+ and .185 ISO; 0.215 ISO versus righties. O'Hearn is leading the Orioles versus right-handed pitchers, slashing .300/.332/.477 with nine home runs and 43 RBI. In his last five games on the road, he is slashing .313/.313/.500, and against the AL Central, he is batting .304/.385/.457.

Davies is 1-5 for the season with a 5.74 ERA. He is allowing a .292/.372/.445 slash line versus lefties, and .351/.394/.614 when runners are in scoring position. Baltimore has an opportunity to be a top stack tonight in Cleveland, and O'Hearn will be a central part of that stack.
