Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Picks (8/16/17): MLB DFS Advice for FanDuel and DraftKings

Tom Vecchio's top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for 8/16/17. Expert MLB DFS advice, sleepers & player recommendations for FanDuel and DraftKings.

We have a nine game main slate tonight, with a few very clear top options at pitcher, along with some big bats. Darvish is the clear cash game option, and if you want to spend up on him you will need to find some savings elsewhere. Plenty of options if you are looking to stack against, we have Homer Baileyand Anibal Sanchez pitching tonight. Only the CLE at MIN game has weather concerns as of now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/16/17. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom.

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider

Yu Darvish, LOS vs CWS (DK - $13,700, FD - $10,400)

In his two starts since being acquired by the Dodgers, Darvish has put up 10 strikeouts in each game, and only allowed two earned runs. Darvish is an elite pitcher and he is up against one of the weaker offensives team in the White Sox tonight. Chicago comes into this game with a 23% strikeout rate vs right-handed pitching, which is the bottom ten for the league. Darvish has a 26% strikeout rate or higher vs both left-handed or right-handed hitters this season. The White Sox usually deploy of pretty heavy right-handed heavy lineup, and Darvish is only allowing a .263 wOBA to right-handed hitter this season. He is in a prime spot tonight, and a sure fire cash game option.

Marcus Stroman, TOR vs TAM (DK - $11,600, FD - $8,800)

Stroman is almost $2K cheaper than Darvish on FanDuel and DraftKings tonight, and he is in an equally good spot. If you are looking to save a bit of money and spend down, he might be the option for you. Stroman is up against the Rays, who have the second highest strikeout rate vs right-handed pitcher, sitting at 25.2%. Stroman isn't a super heavy strikeout pitcher, as he only has six or more strikeouts twice in his last five starts. But what Stroman does have going for him, is that he knows how to limit the damage. In his last nine starts, he has only given up four or more earned runs once in that time, and he often pitches into the seventh inning. Solid in any format tonight.

DFS Infielders to Consider

Alex Avila - C, CHC vs CIN (DK - $3,800, FD - $2,700)

The Cubs lost Willson Contreras to injury the other day, so this opens up more playing time for Avila, and with his splits vs right-handed pitchers, he is in a great spot tonight. Avila has a .386 wOBA and a .236 ISO this season vs RHP, and is up against a pitcher who is giving up a .366 wOBA to left-handed hitters. He is cheap and in a good spot, viable in all formats tonight.

Joey Gallo - 1B, TEX vs DET (DK - $4,600, FD - $3,600)

Gallo hit another home run last night which gives him five over his last eight games. He is at home in a great hitters park, and has a .368 wOBA and a .363 ISO vs right-handed pitching this season. His ISO is almost higher than his wOBA, that is insane. Gallo is expensive, but he brings legitimate, two home run upside, since he is up against a pitcher who is giving up a .364 wOBA and 2.11 HR/9, to left-handed hitters.

Jason Kipnis - 2B, CLE @ MIN (DK - $4,000, FD - $2,700)

Kipnis is either way over priced on DraftKings or way under priced on FanDuel, just depends on how you look at things. There is no denying that he has been struggling lately, but he did have a home run last night, and is up against a pitcher who is giving up a .381 wOBA to left-handed hitters. He offers savings on FanDuel, but not on DraftKings.

Jake Lamb - 3B, ARI @ HOU (DK - $4,300, FD - $3,500)

Lamb has big time splits vs pitchers, and he is on the good side of that tonight. He has a .410 wOBA and a .289 ISO this season vs right-handed pitchers. Those are some monster numbers, and in a hitters park like Houston, he is in a great spot. Lamb has six hits over his last three games, and four of those hits are doubles. He is seeing the ball well, and on the verge of knocking one out of the park.

Paul DeJong - SS, STL @ BOS (DK - $4,400, FD 0 $3,700)

DeJong has five multi-hit games in a row now, and two home runs over that span. He is racking up the fantasy points, and is in a spot to continue that streak tonight. Not only is he at a great hitters park, but he has a .441 wOBA and a .383 ISO this season vs left-handed pitchers. DeJong is expensive, but the level of production he is bringing almost can't be matched at shortstop, so he is worth spending up on.

DFS Outfielders to Consider

Shin-soo Choo - OF, TEX vs DET (DK - $4,600, FD - $3,400)

Choo is certainly not one of the most consistent players when it comes to DFS, but he has power upside, and is in a lineup that has a lot of home run potential, they hit three last night. Choo comes into this game with a .341 wOBA and a .166 ISO this season vs right-handed pitchers. Good as a one off in GPP lineups, not for cash.

Jon Jay - OF, CHC vs CIN (DK - $4,200, FD - $2,800)

Jay is way under priced on FanDuel, so he brings good savings, and he has been hitting lead-off for the Cubs. He has hits in four of his last five games, and has a .347 wOBA and a .386 OBP vs right-handed pitching. He is almost an auto lock on FanDuel because of the savings, and should be considered for all formats.

Yoenis Cespedes - OF, NYM vs NYY (DK - $4,800, FD - $3,900)

Cespedes has a five game hitting streak going, and he has hit three home runs over that span. Love to ride the hot hitter, and especially in a rivalry game. Cespedes has a .339 wOBA and a .284 ISO this season vs left-handed pitchers. Expensive, but in a spot to go deep, and put up big points.
