Catcher Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 24

Making the right moves at this point in the season can be the difference between advancing in the playoffs and starting to dive into managing your fantasy football roster.

Often times with these lists similar players keep showing up because quite frankly the news is not out yet on the success of some of these players. However most of the time it is simply an oversight on the owners part of not paying attention to beneficial players such as the ones listed below.

Editor’s Note: to read about even more waiver wire options for first base and third base, be sure to check out our famous waiver wire pickups list which is a running list that is updated daily.

Waiver Wire Analysis For Catchers

Stephen Vogt (C, OAK)

Owned in: 58% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Vogt was on fire to start the season and looked to be one of the top five waiver wire pickups of the 2015 season until summer hit. Then Vogt's bat fell asleep and now he is barely hanging on in 8-12 team leagues despite his multi-position eligibility.

Vogt's BA is all the way down to .271 and the power numbers of 18 HR and 67 RBI had considerably slowed down until recently hurting his overall valuable considerably. As of late, Vogt has clubbed two of those 18 HR and hitting a cool .423 as well.

This has still been a breakout year for Vogt setting new highs in every major sabermetric category which includes a 50% BB% uptick with only a slight raise in K%. The writing was on the wall for a stellar season and yet owners quickly got rid of him when the numbers severely tapered off. Vogt is still going to be a solid play the rest of the season with the A's trying to figure out what went wrong this season. If someone dropped him or you have him on your bench he is close to a must play if he keeps up this decent hitting surge that we had not seen since June.

Baller Move: Add in 10+ Leagues

J.T. Realmuto (C, MIA)

Owned in: 7% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Realmuto seems like a plug and play catcher who should be a decent play in a few years once he gets handling a staff and controlling his plate discipline to become a serviceable catcher. Realmuto decided that he was going to become THE guy in Miami and make the decision to do so seem like a brilliant one.

In his first full season in Miami, Realmuto has still provided a .250 BA with 9 HR 41 RBI and a wRC+ of 80 and an ISO of .147 giving hope that with just a little more seasoning Realmuto can be a force in Miami. Yes the numbers are not glamorous but most of the league deals with catchers who are not the most sought after hitters for fantasy purposes. His K% is down 10% from last season while his OPS and SLG% are both trending positively towards league norms.

He is also pulling the ball less and hitting the ball to the opposite field more. The 7 SB dictates that even though he has been described as having doubles power he can maneuver around the base paths and make himself useful in that manner for the Marlins and as a sneaky play for fantasy purposes.

Baller Move: Add in 12+ Leagues

Blake Swihart (C, BOS)

Owned in: 7% of Fleaflicker Leagues

Blake Swihart continues to get love as a budding superstar from the C position due to his play thus far in the 2015 season for the Boston Red Sox. Swihart's .284 BA along with his impressive .385 BABIP should have owners turning their heads for the future of Swihart as an elite catcher. His wRC+ of 95 shows that he can be a tremendously useful entity for the Red Sox to move around different spots in the lineup and get great production. The trick with Swihart will be getting his OBP up closer to the .360 range and keep his K% down in the 15% range for maximum output. The ISO could be higher and his SB potential also should make inquiring minds happy but Swihart is a guy to buy into now before he blows up in a big way in 2016.

Baller Move: Add in 12+ and Dynasty Leagues

J.P. Arencibia (C, TB)

Owned in: 3% of Fleaflicker Leagues

For anyone that hopped aboard the J.P. Arencibia train a few weeks back when Tampa Bay signed him you are reaping the rewards for that decision.

In 12 games this year he has 11 RBI with a .469 ISO, .444 BABIP, .375 BA, .364 OBP, .844 SLG%, .498 wOBA and a wRC+ of 230!

The guy hits when he plays and when he plays the team rakes in the benefits of having a monster power hitter with a career BA of .211. Enjoy the ride while it is hot which may last until the end of the season which could help you win a fantasy championship!

Baller Move: Add in 12+ Leagues
