Zach Thompson

1528 articles

Zach has been covering fantasy sports across multiple platforms and websites since 2008, and he's been playing fantasy sports since the late 90s, when he totaled the fantasy scores from the box scores in the newspaper. He has covered a variety of sports from a fantasy perspective, including the main ones like baseball, basketball, golf, football, and hockey, while also jumping into some more exotic options like Australian Rules Football and rugby. Basically, any sport that has a fantasy format--he'll play it! Even though he grew up almost 8,000 miles away in Guam, he was raised a diehard Boston sports fan. After playing soccer competitively throughout high school and college, Zach now lives in central Massachusetts with his wife and four children. He attends as many games in as many sports as possible and has found a passion for watching minor league baseball and tracking player development. Zach specializes in finding bargain plays from obscure spots, and nothing is sweeter than when a low ownership bargain option carries your fantasy team to the win!

The Orioles currently have Trevor Rogers, Kyle Bradish, Shane Baz, Dean Kremer, […]

Steven Adams Will Not Play Tuesday Against the Spurs

Houston Rockets center Steven Adams (ankle) has been ruled out of Tuesday's contest against the Spurs. The Big Kiwi started on Sunday against the Pelicans and had five points, 10 boards, and two assists before leaving after 27 minutes with his ankle injury. He was unable to put much weight on the injury and had […]

Tari Eason Could Be Back Against the Spurs on Tuesday

Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason (ankle) has missed the last five games with an ankle injury, but he is questionable to get back in the action on Tuesday night, when the Rockets host the Spurs in a Texas-sized matchup in Houston. Eason was playing well before the injury, scoring double-digit points and posting at least […]

RJ Barrett Will Not Return Against the Warriors

Toronto Raptors guard/forward RJ Barrett (ankle) is still not ready to return from a sprained left ankle, and he'll miss his sixth straight game on Tuesday, when his team visits the Warriors. Barrett hasn't been given a concrete timeline, but he hasn't been able to return to practice yet either, so a return doesn't seem […]

Cam Christie Could Miss Tuesday's Contest in Chicago

Los Angeles Clippers guard/forward Cam Christie (abdominal) has played at least 19 minutes in each of the team's last three games, but the rookie is questionable for Tuesday's matchup against the Bulls, as the Clippers finish a back-to-back set of games. Christie had 16 points in 20 minutes off the bench against the Raptors on […]

Patrick Williams Could Be Back in Action Tuesday Against the Clippers

Bulls forward Patrick Williams (ankle) was listed as questionable for Tuesday night's home game against the visiting Clippers. He missed Sunday's game against the Nets after leaving Friday's game in Brooklyn with a sprained ankle. Williams has not been contributing very much this season, scoring just 6.5 points in 18 minutes per game, but if […]

Naz Reid Upgraded to Available Tuesday Against Utah

Minnesota Timberwolves forward/center Naz Reid (shoulder) was originally listed as questionable for Tuesday's road game against the Jazz, but he was upgraded to available on Tuesday afternoon. Reid left Saturday's game against the Spurs after just five minutes with shoulder soreness and was unable to return, but he'll keep his streak intact of playing every […]

Collin Murray-Boyles Will Not Play Tuesday

Toronto Raptors forward/center Collin Murray-Boyles (thumb) will miss Tuesday's game against the Warriors after leaving Sunday's game against the Lakers. At the time, the team thought he was dealing with a left thumb sprain, but now they are calling the injury a "left thumb contusion," which would seem to be a less severe injury. It […]

Mark Williams Uncertain to Play on Tuesday in Philadelphia

Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams (injury management) was listed as questionable for Tuesday night, when his team visits the 76ers on the second night of a back-to-back. Williams posted 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals over 29 minutes on Monday against the Nets to help the Suns to a nine-point road victory. […]

Paul George Could Return Tuesday

Philadelphia 76ers guard/forward Paul George (knee) sat out Monday's matchup against the Pacers, but the team listed him as questionable for Tuesday's matchup with the Suns, when the team finishes their back-to-back. Since PG has played three straight games before sitting on Monday, it seems very possible he'll be back in action on Tuesday. In […]

Joel Embiid Will Not Play Tuesday

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (injury management) will not play on the second night of the team's back-to-back when they take on the Suns in Philly on Tuesday. Embiid had 30 points and nine rebounds in 33 minutes in the Sixers' win on Monday, but has still not been cleared to play in both games […]

Weston Wilson Designated for Assignment

Philadelphia Phillies infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson was designated for assignment on Tuesday when the team officially re-signed J.T. Realmuto. Wilson was behind both Otto Kemp and Edmundo Sosa as utility bench pieces for the Phillies, and he'll now be available via trade or waiver wire claim to the rest of the teams in the majors. Over […]

Masyn Winn Won't Have Any Limitations in Spring Training

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) feels healthy and says he is extremely excited to take the field again, facing no limitations in Spring Training. The Gold Glove-winning shortstop was shut down in mid-September for an arthroscopic procedure on his knee to deal with a torn meniscus. He impressed with a .253/.310/.363 triple-slash line […]

Mookie Betts Plans to Retire at the End of his Current Contract

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Mookie Betts says he "for sure" plans on retiring at the end of his current contract, which runs through the 2032 season. Betts pointed out that he'll be 40 at that point and will be looking to spend more time with his family at that point. The 2018 AL MVP and […]

Zach Penrod Joins Nationals on Minor-League Contract

Free-agent pitcher Zach Penrod and the Washington Nationals reached an agreement on a minor-league deal. The 28-year-old lefty spent last year in the Red Sox and Dodgers minor-league systems, going 2-1 in 26 appearances (six starts) with a 7.83 ERA and 6.80 FIP. He pitched in seven games out of the bullpen in the majors […]

Cody Bellinger Nearing a Decision

Free-agent first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger could come off the market soon, since MLB Network's Jim Bowden reports that Bellinger is mulling over multiple offers from multiple teams and is expected to make his decision soon. Last season, Bellinger hit .272 in 152 games with the Yankees, smashing 29 homers and posting a .207 ISO and […]

Seth Brown Signs Minor-League Deal With Yankees

Free Agent first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Monday, and he will also receive an invite to Spring Training. Jerami Grant Likely to Play Against the Hawks on Thursday

Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant (Achilles) has spent about a month recovering from left Achilles tendonitis, but he was listed as probable for his team's home game against the Hawks on Thursday night. Grant will likely carry as much of the offense as he can with Deni Avdija (back) still absent for a second […]

Deni Avdija Ruled Out Thursday

Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija (back) will miss a second straight game on Thursday night, when his team hosts the Hawks. Avdija sustained a back injury on Sunday and missed Tuesday's game, allowing Caleb Love to make the start against the Warriors. Love had 17 points, three rebounds, seven assists, one block, and two […]

P.J. Washington Questionable Against the Jazz

Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington (ankle) is questionable for Thursday's home game against Utah, as the team tries to manage his return from an ankle injury. Washington missed four games due to an ankle sprain but played 31 minutes in his return on Wednesday in the team's loss to the Bulls. His shot looked a […]

Max Christie Unlikely to Return to Action on Thursday

Dallas Mavericks guard Max Christie (illness) will likely miss a second straight game after being listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against the Jazz, which finishes out his team's back-to-back. The Mavs didn't have Christie against the Bulls on Wednesday, and they also lost Cooper Flagg (ankle) in that contest. Flagg is also doubtful for […]

Mitchell Robinson Will Sit Out Thursday

New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson (ankle) will sit out the second game of his team's back-to-back for injury management purposes on Thursday night as they face the Warriors. Robinson played 19 minutes and had eight points and 11 rebounds against the Kings on Wednesday, and in his absence, Ariel Hukporti and Guerschon Yabusele will […]

Landry Shamet Could Return Thursday

New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet (shoulder) hasn't played since Nov. 22, but he seems to be nearing a return since he was listed as questionable for Thursday night's road matchup against the Warriors. Shamet sprained his shoulder against the Magic just before Thanksgiving and returned to practice on Tuesday. With Jalen Brunson (ankle) out […]

Jalen Brunson Out on Thursday Against Golden State

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (ankle) will not play Thursday, as expected, after he departed Wednesday's game after just five minutes with an ankle sprain. While Brunson will miss Thursday's game against the Warriors, the good news is that the fantasy stud is considered day-to-day, and he may not be out long-term. As for […]

Daniel Gafford Questionable Thursday Against the Jazz

Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford (ankle) was listed as questionable for his team's home game against Utah. Gafford has been dealing with a right ankle sprain for much of the season and was forced to leave Wednesday's loss to the Nuggets in the third quarter. He finished with six points and 10 rebounds in 18 […]

Cooper Flagg Is Unlikely To Play Thursday Against Utah

Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Cooper Flagg (ankle) left Wednesday's loss early with a sprained left ankle and is officially listed as doubtful for the second game of his team's back-to-back on Thursday night against the Jazz. Without Flagg and Anthony Davis (finger), P.J. Washington (ankle) could be in for a big workload if he can play […]

Lauri Markkanen Will Not Be Available Thursday Against Dallas

Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen (illness) was listed as out on Thursday, as the team finishes a back-to-back with a game in Dallas. Markkanen missed Wednesday's loss to the Bulls and will also be out Thursday, leaving more work for the rest of the rotation. Brice Sensabaugh went off for 43 points on Wednesday night […]

Davion Mitchell Ruled Out Thursday

Miami Heat guard Davion Mitchell (shoulder) was downgraded to out after originally being listed as doubtful for Thursday's home game against the Boston Celtics. Jaime Jaquez Jr. Will Not Play Against the Celtics

Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. (knee) was downgraded from questionable to out for Thursday night's home game against the Celtics.
