Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Brandon Morrow Plays Catch Wednesday

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow (biceps) played catch on Wednesday. Morrow has been sidelined since July 19. Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey said on Wednesday that Morrow is expected to return in mid-September. Pedro Strop has seen the majority of save opportunities with Morrow sidelined, but was pulled early on Monday. Strop remains the most […]

Drew Smyly To Begin Rehab Assignment On Thursday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Drew Smyly (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment by throwing one inning for Class A South Bend on Thursday. Smyly is recovering from Tommy John surgery and there is no word on if he will pitch in the big leagues this year. Smyly is a name that owners should keep an […]

Pedro Strop Yanked Early, Jesse Chavez Picks Up The Save

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Pedro Strop was pulled early from a save opportunity in Monday’s contest versus the New York Mets. Strop recorded one out and allowed one hit and one run. Jesse Chavez came in with three runners on and recorded the final two outs to secure the save. Strop is likely to remain […]

Buster Posey Done For The Year

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey (hip) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip impingement. Posey will undergo an arthroscopic hip clean-out surgery which involves labrum repair and bone spur removal. Nick Hundley will become the Giants everyday catcher. Hundley has been cold at the plate and is hitting .195 […]

Kris Bryant To Begin Rehab Assignment On Monday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (shoulder) is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment on Monday with Triple-A Iowa. Bryant has been on the disabled list since July 26 and if everything goes as planned, the third baseman should be available this weekend. Bryant remains one of the better offensive options when healthy.

Andrew McCutchen Will Start On Thursday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen will be in the Giants lineup on Thursday. McCutchen sat out on Wednesday and there was speculation that the outfielder could be dealt as he cleared waivers. It doesn’t appear that McCutchen will be moved at this time and he will bat in the leadoff spot on Thursday.

Addison Russell Lands On Disabled List

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. Russell has also been bothered by shoulder and leg issues. Russell has been a major disappointment this season and with the Cubs acquiring Daniel Murphy on Tuesday, second baseman Javier Baez figures to get plenty of run at shortstop. Russell can […]

Daniel Murphy Batting First In Cubs Debut

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Murphy will play second base and bat first on Wednesday versus the Tigers. It will be Murphy’s first game with his new team and it comes at a good time as Murphy has been swinging a hot bat and the Cubs have not scored more than one run in five consecutive […]

Jose Abreu Lands On Disabled List

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu (groin) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower abdomen pain. Abreu underwent surgery on Tuesday and is expected to return to baseball activities in two weeks. It comes at a bad for fantasy owners as the playoffs are a few weeks away and Abreu has […]

Kris Bryant Goes Through Drills On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (shoulder) went through normal pregame drills on Tuesday. Bryant has been sidelined since July 26 with a sore shoulder and it’s a good sign that he participated in drills on Tuesday. Bryant also said that he open to playing more outfield after the Cubs acquired infielder Daniel Murphy on […]

Brandon Crawford Won’t Start Tuesday

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford will rest on Tuesday versus the New York Mets. Crawford has had a cold bat of late and is hitting just .189 over the past month. Infielder Alen Hanson will bat eighth and play shortstop Tuesday. Hanson has been hitting well lately and also offers stolen base potential. Hanson […]

Giants Rest Brandon Belt On Tuesday

The San Francisco Giants will rest first baseman Brandon Belt on Tuesday. Belt has struggled lately and has just seven hits over his last 38 at-bats. Belt will be replaced at first base by outfielder Austin Slater. Slater will bat fifth and is hitting .172 over his last 29 at-bats and can be avoided versus […]

Buster Posey Will Take A Seat On Tuesday

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will rest on Tuesday versus the New York Mets. It’s just a normal day of rest for Posey and he is replaced by Nick Hundley. Hundley will bat fourth versus Mets starter Steven Matz and is hitting .284 versus lefties this season. Hundley is worth a dart throw in […]

Michael Kopech Will Start Tuesday

Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Michael Kopech will make his big league debut on Tuesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Kopech is 7-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 24 starts for Triple-A Charlotte. Kopech also struck out 170 batters in 126 1/3 innings. Kopech should be swooped up in most leagues due to his high upside […]

Tim Anderson Won’t Start Wednesday

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will receive Wednesday off versus the Detroit Tigers. It’s just a routine day off for Anderson who is replaced at shortstop by Yolmer Sanchez and he will face Jordan Zimmermann Wednesday. Anderson is hitting .242 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI and 22 stolen bases on the year and […]

Cubs Acquire Terrance Gore

The Chicago Cubs have acquired outfielder Terrance Gore from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations. Gore, 27, has been in Triple-A all year, but offers elite speed for the Cubs bench. Gore likely won’t be up until rosters expand in September and offers the Cubs more value than fantasy owners.

Xavier Cedeno Picks Up The Save On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Xavier Cedeno picked up his first save of the season on Tuesday versus the Tigers. The White Sox have had four saves go to four different pitchers since Joakim Soria was dealt. The White Sox closer situation is one to avoid in all formats as they don’t have a clear […]

Jose Quintana Gets Rocked On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana put together another weak performance on Tuesday versus the Brewers. Quintana allowed five runs on six hits and one walk. Quintana also struck out five hitters, but gave up three home runs. Quintana has been inconsistent all year and will look for better results on Sunday versus the Pirates.

Addison Russell Absent On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell will have Tuesday afternoon off versus the Milwaukee Brewers. It’s a routine day off for Russell and he is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday. Second baseman Javier Baez will slide over to shortstop and Tommy La Stella will get a rare start at third base versus Brewers […]

Evan Longoria Exits Early Friday

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria exited Friday’s contest early. Longoria got hit in the back, but it looks like he avoided a serious injury. Longoria is day-to-day. Alen Hanson could see time at the hot corner if Longoria sits on Saturday.

Ben Zobrist Returns To Cubs Lineup On Friday

Chicago Cubs second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist will return to Friday’s lineup and bat third. Zobrist sat out on Wednesday with a tight hip that he suffered on Tuesday, but he is good to go on Friday. Zobrist will square off versus Nationals starter Jeremy Hellickson on Friday.

Tyler Chatwood Will Move To Cubs Bullpen

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood will move to the Cubs bullpen after the club acquired starting pitcher Cole Hamels on Friday. Chatwood has struggled with the Cubs after signing for three years this past offseason. Chatwood has a 4.98 ERA and 1.78 WHIP on the season. Walks have really hurt Chatwood and he should […]

Cole Hamels To Make Cubs Debut On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Cole Hamels will make his debut with his new team on Wednesday versus the Pirates. Hamels has posted an 11.12 ERA over his last four starts and will hope for better luck behind a better defense with the Cubs. Hamels should be avoided for now, but a move to the National […]

Javier Baez Remains Out

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez (knee) remains out of Thursday’s lineup. Baez suffered an injured knee on Tuesday, but he did get an at-bat on Wednesday. Baez remains day-to-day. Infielder David Bote will replace Baez at second base today and bat ninth versus Diamondbacks starter Zach Godley.

Kris Bryant Sent To The Disabled List

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (shoulder) will return to the disabled list for the second time this season with a sore shoulder. It’s a tough blow for the Cubs and fantasy owners. Outfielders Ian Happ and Ben Zobrist are likely to see the bulk of playing time with Bryant out and both are worth […]

Javier Baez Gets Wednesday Off

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez (knee) will have Wednesday off versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Baez left Tuesday’s game early after getting struck in the knee by Diamondbacks outfielder Steven Souza Jr. and was seen icing his knee after Tuesday’s contest. Baez is considered day-to-day. Baez will be replaced by Ben Zobrist. Zobrist will bat third, […]

Kris Bryant Remains Sidelined On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (shoulder) remains sidelined with a sore shoulder on Wednesday. It will be his second consecutive game missed. Bryant has been bothered by his shoulder for much of this year and remains day-to-day. Infielder Tommy La Stella will replace Bryant on Wednesday and bat ninth. La Stella is hitting .277 […]

Yu Darvish Throws On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) threw 16 pitches Tuesday and Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports that it went well. Darvish has been sidelined since May 23 and it is still unclear when he will return to the big league roster. Mike Montgomery continues to perform well with Darvish sidelined.

Kris Bryant Continues To Deal With Sore Shoulder

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is out of Tuesday’s lineup and could miss additional time with a sore shoulder. Bryant landed on the disabled list earlier this year with a sore shoulder and it continues to bother him. Outfielder Ian Happ will be at third base Tuesday and could see additional starts there if […]

Willson Contreras Gets Tuesday Off

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will rest on Tuesday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Contreras has struggled since his first All-Star appereance and will get a standard day off. Victor Caratini will replace Contreras and bat ninth. Caratini has performed well when he has started and has a nine hits over his last 28 at-bats. Caratini […]
