Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Kris Bryant Will Sit Tuesday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is absent from Tuesday’s lineup versus the Diamondbacks. Bryant is hitting .250 over his last 40 at-bats and this will be a routine day off. Outfielder Ian Happ will show his versatility and play third base Tuesday. Happ will bat fifth versus Diamondbacks starter Clay Buchholz. Happ is in […]

Kyle Schwarber Will Rest On Monday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will rest Monday versus Diamondbacks left-hander Patrick Corbin. Schwarber normally sits versus lefties, so this is just a regular day off for the slugger. Ian Happ will take over for Schwarber and bat eighth. Happ will face a tough battle versus Corbin on Monday and enjoys most of his power […]

Avisail Garcia Activated On Saturday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled on Saturday. Garcia had been on the disabled list since July 10 with a strained right hamstring. Garcia was on fire before landing on the disabled list and is worth owning in all formats.

Brandon Belt Place On Paternity Leave

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt has been placed on paternity leave prior to Friday’s game. Belt is expecting his second child and will miss the next few days. Infielder Ryder Jones will replace Belt on the active roster and start at third base on Friday. Jones will likely only be up for the […]

Cubs Acquire Jesse Chavez

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers. Chavez has a 3.51 ERA over 56 1/3 inning this year for the Rangers. Chavez can pitch both as a starter and relief pitcher and will likely pitch in the bullpen for now with his new […]

Pedro Strop Secures A Save On Thursday

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Pedro Strop picked up the final out in Thursday’s game versus the Cardinals to pick up his third save of the season. Closer Brandon Morrow (biceps) isn’t expected to miss much time, but for now it looks like Strop may be manager Joe Maddon’s preferred option for saves. Strop should be […]

Brandon Morrow Placed On Disabled List On Thursday

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow (biceps) has been placed on the disabled list with right biceps inflammation. It will be the second time that Morrow will miss time this season. Morrow has been effective when healthy, but injuries have been a big part of his career. Carl Edwards Jr., Pedro Strop, Steve Cishek and Justin […]

Willson Contreras And Javier Baez Will Sit Thursday

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras and second baseman Javier Baez will both rest on Thursday. Contreras and Baez both appeared in the All-Star game on Tuesday and will receive an extra day of rest. Ben Zobrist will replace Baez at second base and Victor Caratini will be behind the plate. The Cubs offense will face […]

Yu Darvish Feeling Better

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) feels better and is hoping to throw on a mound next weekend. Darvish felt pain after his first rehab start, but it sounds like he’s making a move in the right direction. The Cubs don’t have a timetable for the right-handers return, but Darvish said he’d like to […]

Yoan Moncada Exits Early On Saturday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada (knee) exited Saturday’s game early with a bruised right knee. Moncada took X-rays and they came back negative. It is likely Moncada will sit on Sunday with the All-Star break beginning on Monday. Moncada finished the game 1-for-1 with a walk. Leury Garcia would likely replace Moncada if […]

Tyler Chatwood Allows Three Runs On Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood went five innings on Friday versus the Padres. Chatwood allowed five hits, three runs, three walks and struck out two on the evening. Chatwood continues to walk hitters and as long as he does, owners can avoid Chatwood in all formats. He will head into the All-Star break with […]

Javier Baez Does It All On Friday

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez came up big on Friday versus the Padres. Baez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Baez stole second base in extra-innings and wound up scoring the winning run on two errors during the play. Baez has been having his best season a pro […]

Anthony Rizzo Has Big Game

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo snapped an 0-for-21 slump on Friday versus the Padres. Rizzo went 3-for-5 with a RBI that sent the game into extra-innings. Rizzo needed a big game in a big way and hitting in the No. 1 spot on Friday seemed to spark the first baseman. Rizzo has had a […]

Buster Posey Drives In Two Runs Versus Athletics

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Friday. Posey hasn’t shown much power this season, but can still hit the ball effectively and owns a .289 batting average. Posey will miss the All-Star as he hopes to rest his hip that has been bothering him all season. Posey […]

Steven Duggar Puts Together A Big Game On Friday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Steven Duggar put together a strong performance Friday evening versus the Oakland Athletics. The rookie went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, a pair of RBI and one walk. Duggar hasn’t been playing everyday, but he will primarily see many starts versus left-handed pitchers. The Giants will face lefties on […]

Madison Bumgarner Picks Up A Quality Start

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner picked up a quality start on Friday versus the Oakland Athletics. Over six innings, Bumgarner allowed three hits, one run, three walks and struck out five. Bumgarner has been pitching well and now owns a 2.90 ERA on the season. He should be started every time he takes […]

Jose Abreu Hits A Home Run Friday

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu put together a nice game on Friday. Abreu entered the game with a .181 batting average over his last 105 at-bats and went 2-for-5 with a home run on Friday. Abreu has been in a long slump, but given his track record, owners should remain patient.

James Shields Strikes Out Seven Innings On Friday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher James Shields struck out seven batters over 6 2/3 innings Friday evening versus the Royals. Shields allowed four runs (two earned), five hits and two walks. Shields has been pitching well of late and is a trade candidate. Shields would get a bump if he’s dealt to a contender and […]

Anthony Rizzo Leading Off On Friday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo will be in the No. 1 spot of the order on Friday. Rizzo has been having a rough season and has just eight hits over his last 42 at-bats. Manager Joe Maddon has put Rizzo at the top of the order before in hopes of snapping him out of […]

Kyle Schwarber Out Of Friday’s Lineup Versus Padres

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will rest Friday versus the Padres. The Cubs will face left-hander Clayton Richard, which is why Schwarber will not start. Outfielder Ian Happ will be in left field on Friday and bat eighth. Happ performs better against right-handed pitching and there may be better options in DFS Friday.

Pablo Sandoval Will Sit Wednesday Versus Cubs

San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval will rest on Wednesday versus the Chicago Cubs. Sandoval has been a pleasant surprise this season and has hit .258 with eight home runs and 35 RBI. Infielder Chase d’Arnaud will replace Sandoval and bat first. d’Arnaud has one hit in five at-bats this year and is a […]

Willson Contreras Sits On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will get the afternoon off on Wednesday versus the Giants. It’s a routine day off for the All-Star catcher, who will be replaced by Victor Caratini. Caratini will bat eighth and faces a tough matchup in Johnny Cueto. There should be better options behind the dish in DFS Wednesday.

Kris Bryant Activated On Wednesday

The Chicago Cubs have activated third baseman Kris Bryant from the disabled list prior to Wednesday’s game versus the San Francisco Giants. Bryant has been sidelined since June 23 with a sore shoulder. Bryant will bat third versus Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto and should be started in all formats.

Steve Cishek Records A Save On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Steve Cishek picked up the save on Tuesday versus the Giants. It was his third save of the season. Cubs closer Brandon Morrow was unavailable and remains the Cubs closer. Cishek can help owners with holds, but doesn’t offer much value outside of that category.

Jose Quintana Picks Up The Win Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana picked up a quality start on Tuesday versus the San Francisco Giants. Over six innings, Quintana allowed no runs, three hits, two walks and struck out three. Quintana has been a rollercoaster ride throughout the season and with Tuesday’s strong performance, Quintana lowered his ERA to 3.96.

Derek Holland Suffers A Tough Loss On Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Derek Holland gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday versus the Cubs. Holland got the start on Tuesday at the last minute and performed well. Holland allowed five hits, no walks and struck out eight. Holland isn’t expected to remain in the rotation and could be avoided […]

Cubs Bench Anthony Rizzo And Kyle Schwarber On Tuesday

The Chicago Cubs will rest first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Kyle Schwarber on Tuesday. The Cubs are facing left-hander Derek Holland, which is why Rizzo and Schwarber will rest. It will be two games in a row with Schwarber absent and he is replaced by Ian Happ, who will bat seventh. Catcher Victor Caratini […]

Johnny Cueto Has Start Pushed Back To Wednesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was scheduled to pitch on Tuesday, but will be moved back to Wednesday versus the Cubs. There is no word on why the Giants have made this decision, but Derek Holland will now start on Tuesday. Holland is 5-7 with a 4.35 ERA on the season and isn’t […]

Avisail Garcia Returns To The Disabled List

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) will return to the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Garcia missed much of the first half of the season with a Grade 2 hamstring and was hitting .333 since his return. Outfielder Charlie Tilson will see more at-bats with Garcia sidelined and offers owners some speed, […]
