ANALYSIS: Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Alex Cobb is a boom-or-bust option like many other pitching streamers. He has allowed only one earned run in two of the past five games. However, in the other three starts, opponents produced at least five earned runs in each contest.
On the bright side, Cobb has compiled at least five strikeouts in four of the past five appearances and has two starts this week. Cobb will go on the road to face the Phillies and the Twins, with both matchups providing upside. The Twins are not particularly known for their offense, so Cobb should be able to record a quality start in that appearance. Also, the Phillies, while they have a good offense, are fourth in team strikeouts this year (769).
While Cobb should not be owned in shallow leagues, his two starts this week are good at a minimum. There are enough positives with Cobb to own him in deeper leagues.
