Spencer Howard To Start Monday
Spencer Howard to start on Monday at the Cincinnati Reds, which will push right-hander Vince Velasquez to Tuesday against the Miami Marlins. No reason has been given for the switch. Howard has been up and down in his second major league season, going 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 26:15 K:BB over eight outings (four starts) and 19 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old allowed two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief in his last appearance against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Before that, he gave up three earned runs (two homers) in four innings in his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Velasquez has allowed seven earned runs in his last 8 1/3 innings pitched, and his ERA is now up to 4.74 on the year. Both right-handers will be shaky fantasy options next week.
