FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/27/19): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Welcome to Tuesday baseball on FanDuel! We have 15 games on the slate and plenty to dive into. With the entire world on the NFL grind, there is plenty of money to make in baseball. At pitcher, there are quite a few arms to pay up for. It'll be important to pick the right one. There are also a couple cheap arms that are worth looking at.

At hitter, there are some gas can arms that we have to target. We're at the point in the year where a lot of teams just don't care and the others care a lot, so we're going to see some offenses put up 10+ runs regularly. It''s important to get exposure to the right offenses, as there isn't much room for error on this slate. Let's dive in and take a look at a top play from each position!

Be sure to also check out all the Vegas Odds for today's slate. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for sites like FanDuel, and other sports too. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFSVarney

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Luis Castillo - CIN @ MIA - $11,000

The three most expensive options at pitcher are all in play. Justin Verlander has been the standard of consistency and you can't go wrong there in cash games. Walker Buehler is worse on the road, but he still has upside vs the Padres. With that being said, Luis Castillo is clearly my favorite. He's cheaper than both Verlander and Buehler and has just as much upside. Castillo is facing off with the Marlins, who we already know rank dead last in baseball against righties with a .279 team wOBA and 26% strikeout rate. Castillo is striking out 10.46 batters per nine innings and walking just 9%. This ballpark is one of the best for pitchers and Castillo has a great shot of striking out double digits and getting into the eighth. He's my favorite on the slate and I'm willing to deploy him in both cash games and tournaments.

Andrew Heaney - LAA vs. TEX - $8,200

The Texas Rangers are a solid offense, but you can certainly target them with lefties. On the season, they rank 17th in baseball vs southpaws, but strikeout the second most at 27%. Heaney is a strikeout pitcher and this has the recipe to be another big outing for him. He faced this same Rangers team less than a week ago and struck out 14 on his way to 73 FanDuel points. Heaney will certainly be popular, but the price is simply too low for the potential upside. You can't avoid him in tournaments.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

C/1B - Rhys Hoskins - PHI vs. PIT (Brault) - $3,900

Steven Brault is an easy target for right-handed power. On the season, righties are stroking a .345 wOBA with a 43% hard contact rate. He’ll now go into Citizens Bank Park, which is much tougher on a pitcher than PNC Park. Hoskins is better against lefties (.359 wOBA) and hits more HR per AB vs them. He’s been in the leadoff spot against lefties and should see at least five at-bats in this one. He’s extremely safe and has the upside to hit two dingers. I’ll be taking a stand on Hoskins and will likely have 100%.

2B - Ozzie Albies - ATL @ TOR (Pannone) - $3,000

It’s the same song and dance we’ve done all season. Ozzie Albies vs a lefty. Easy money. His wOBA is up to .428 against lefties and he’s hit 17 XBH in just 130 at-bats. He now gets to match-up with Thomas Pannone, who’s allowed a .371 wOBA to righties on the season. The Braves are and excellent stack and Albies is the top play at second base regardless of price.

3B - Matt Chapman - OAK @ KAN (Montgomery) - $3,600

Mike Montgomery has been one of the more disappointing pitchers in baseball this year, giving up 32 XBH in 50 innings of work with a .361 combined wOBA allowed. Matt Chapman has flown under the radar as one of the best power bats in the game, already up to 29 home runs with a .357 wOBA vs lefties. The ballpark isn’t great, but it’s the only factor not in Chapman’s favor. He’s affordable on FanDuel and a great play in all formats.

SS - Kevin Newman - PIT @ PHI - $3,500

Kevin Newman has been on fire of late and now draws a tremendous match-up with Drew Smyly. The Pirates will be one of my favorite stacks of the night, as any team would be facing Drew Smyly. On the season, he’s given up 26 home runs through just 82 innings of works. Against righties, a .363 wOBA allowed. Newman is better against lefties and has held a .341 wOBA on the year. He has enough power to get it done and is affordable. He’s a solid play in both formats.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Juan Soto - WAS vs. BAL (Brooks) - $4,200

We haven’t touched on the Nationals yet, but they’re easily one of the top offenses in the entire slate. Vegas has them slated for six-plus runs and I can’t disagree. Aaron Brooks has been pitiful this year, giving up a .367 combined wOBA and nearly three home runs per nine innings. Juan Soto has been great against righties this season (.402 wOBA) and has hit 95% of his home runs against them. He’ll be overshadowed by the Coors outfields and has as much HR upside as anyone.

Andrew Benintendi - BOS @ COL (Garcia) - $3,900

Benintendi was removed with side tightness a few days ago, so make sure he’s in the lineup before you deploy him. We haven’t touched on Coors Field yet, but the Red Sox are the top offense on the slate. Rico Garcia is a 30th round draft pick who’s posted a 7.12 ERA in AAA this season. There’s no reason to think he’ll be able to stand up to these Red Sox bats. Benintendi is too cheap on FanDuel and a must play in cash games if fully healthy and in the lineup.
