DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Picks (8/31/16): MLB DFS Advice

It's a full slate of MLB games on DraftKings for Wednesday's contests, as six games take place in the early afternoon and the remaining nine contests take place in the evening. Because of the split I'm going to offer options from both the early and evening games so that you can apply this advice to all day contests, early and/or evening contests.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball MLB lineup picks for DraftKings on 8/31/16. The DFS lineup picks will range from high-priced to low-priced options and identify options who will out-perform their expectations, including sleepers and value plays on DraftKings. The following targets have been selected early and late contests.

DFS Lineup Stacks to Target on DraftKings

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Jeff Hoffman (RHP)

Jeff Hoffman is a talented young pitcher, but he's been awful thus far in his two major league starts. In those two starts Hoffman allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits (3 of which were HR) and five walks. While there are surely better days ahead for Jeff and the Rockies this match up bodes well for the Dodgers hitters and their owners in the fake game as they take on the young SP at the hitter's paradise of Coors Field in Colorado. Hoffman has been bad against right and left handed hitters so feel free to use both of them. While several Dodgers have been slumping over the past handful of games they are likely to break out of it on Wednesday. My favorite targets are Yasmani Grandal, Chase Utley, Justin Turner and Adrian Gonzalez.

Washington Nationals vs. Adam Morgan (LHP)

Adam Morgan has been terrible this season as he's allowed hitters to compile a triple slash of .320/.362/.583 against him while he's posted a 6.50 ERA and 1.606 WHIP across 15 starts and 80 and 1/3 innings pitched. He's been bad against right and left handed hitters, but much worse against northpaws in the power department as he's allowed them to SLG .629. This bodes well for all of the right handed hitters on the Nationals and my favorites are Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon, Wilson Ramos and Jayson Werth.

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider on DraftKings

Luke Weaver, STL vs. MIL - $4,500

Weaver has been kind of bad in two of three MLB starts and that's largely why he's dirt cheap on Wednesday. However, Luke was superb in his last outing where he held the Athletics to one earned run across six innings pitched while striking out seven and walking just two in a win. In that game Weaver notched 25.9 fantasy points despite costing just $4,200. I think that he could have a similar outcome on Wednesday against Matt Garza and the Brewers. Garza been bad this season and the Cardinals should be able to provide Weaver with run support as they are solid favorites. It also helps that the Brewers happen to have the most strikeouts in the league against right handed pitchers. And while Weaver has some risk attached to him he's managed to average 14.9 FPPG or more than three times his price tag. So even if Jeff has an average outing he would be worth owning in a GPP lineup. Not only that, but his ridiculously low price tag allows you to spend big elsewhere on a day with plenty of worthwhile pricey bats.

Gio Gonzalez, WAS vs. PHI - $8,400

Gonzalez isn't the most attractive pitcher on the docket for Wednesday's slate of games, but he has a stellar match up against a very bad SP in Adam Morgan and the poor hitting Phillies bats as well. In fact the Phillies happen to be the worst team in the league when it comes to scoring runs off of a LHP. This bodes well for Gio and the Nationals as the Nats offense should provide plenty of run support while the Phillies will likely struggle to score runs against the southpaw Gonzalez. While Gio has struggled of late he should be able to put up roughly 25 fantasy points and that would be enough to make him a worthwhile play in GPP tournaments. I expect him to keep the Phillies offense in check while notching a handful of K's in a win and that should get him into the mid to high twenties in fantasy points over at Draft Kings.

DFS Infielders to Consider on DraftKings

Catcher (C)

Wilson Ramos, WAS at PHI- $4,100

As mentioned above, Ramos and the majority of the Nationals hitters have a great match up against Morgan and the Phillies on Wednesday at the band box known as Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. Ramos has been great this season and he's been especially good against left handed pitchers in the power department. Despite that he's logged 240 less at bats against LHP Ramos has managed to hit 8 of his 20 HR against southpaws. For some perspective Wilson is slugging .483 against RHP and a cool .622 against LHP. On top of that he's fairly cheap on a day where he has such a great match up in a hitter friendly park.

First Base (1B)

Brandon Moss, STL vs. MIL - $5,300

Brandon Moss has a terrific match up on tap with struggling RHP Matt Garza and the Brewers at homer happy Miller Park. Moss has mashed four HR in his past 11 games (10 starts) and is slugging .548 over that time span. Against RHP this season Brandon has managed an impressive .621 slugging percentage and he's been at his best on the road as his slugging percentage away from home is 99 points higher. Last but not least Miller Park has had the fifth most HR this season. So to summarize we have a bad RHP facing Moss who has been red hot and is at his best against RHP on the road. Plus that road park is one of the best in the league for power hitters. Check please!

Second Base (2B)

Jedd Gyorko, STL vs. MIL - $5,000

Gyorko has been one of the hottest hitters in the game lately as he's cranked out eight hits including three HR in his past six games. Not only that, but he's been hot for awhile now as he has eight HR in his past 23 games. On Wednesday he'll face Matt Garza and the Brewers at Miller Park. If you've been paying attention thus far you'd know that Garza is a bad RHP and that Miller Park is a great place for power hitters. It also helps that Jedd has destroyed RHP to the tune of a .590 slugging percentage and 19 HR in just 205 plate appearances this season. While Gyorko is expensive at five thousand dollars he's a solid play in all formats because of the extreme likelihood that he'll pile up the points and be plenty worth the dollars that it costs to use him on Wednesday.

Shortstop (SS)

Didi Gregorius, KC vs. NYY - $3,600

Didi is a nice little value play on Wednesday night because of his low price tag and big production in in the power department at home against RHP. While he's a better hitter against LHP 35 of his 47 extra base hits have come against northpaws, and Gregorius has more extra base hits at home at Yankee Stadium where he's slugged 67 points higher than on the road. To make it even better Didi has been red hot over the past week as he's notched eight hits including three doubles and a SB over the past 6 games while triple slashing a healthy .381/.435/.524. Not only will his price tag save you some coin, but Gregorius should also be a rather sneaky and contrarian play against a SP that is prone to giving up the long ball (Ian Kennedy has allowed 28 HR already through just 153 and 2/3 IP).

Third Base (3B)

Anthony Rendon, WAS at PHI - $5,100

Over the past month Anthony Rendon has been very productive as he's managed 27 hits including 10 doubles and three HR across 99 plate appearances. This season against LHP Rendon has amazed with a 19:19 K:BB ratio and a .413 OBP. I expect more of the same on Wednesday against Adam Morgan. Rendon's a bit pricey, but he's actually also a bit of a contrarian play, because some guys named Donaldson, Bryant Turner and Arenado are also in play. While they are all solid options I prefer the cheapest of the bunch that has the highest floor for DFS success; as I expect Anthony to get on base and score early and often.

DFS Outfielders to Consider on DraftKings

Trea Turner, WAS vs. PHI - $5,100

Are you noticing a trend yet? Because of Draft King's awesomeness we get to use Trea in the OF on Wednesday. He's pricey, but Turner is a solid option against a terrible LHP. Turner been red hot lately as he's posted a silly good triple slash of .407/.413/.593 over the past two weeks. During those 63 plate appearances Trea managed to accumalate 24 hits including three doubles, a triple, two home runs and five SB. While Turner hasn't been as good against LHP in the power department yet it's a tiny sample size (just 46 plate appearance vs LHP) that I believe will start changing on Wednesday and he still hits and steals against southpaws (.311 AVG and four SB). So join me and get Turner and a bunch of Nats in your lineups Wednesday.

Randall Grichuk, STL vs. MIL - $5,300

In case you've had your head under a rock Grichuk has been the hottest power hitter in the league lately as he's mashed 15 of his 18 hits for extra bases over his last 60 plate appearances. In that time he's notched seven doubles and HR to with a triple while slugging a redonkulous .814 for the month of August. Not surprisingly two of Randall's 19 HR have come at Miller Park this season. I expect him to add to that total on Wednesday as Grichuk has slugged 90 points higher this season against RHP and Matt Garza happens to be right handed. He's expensive and will be owned everywhere, but he's worth jumping on the bandwagon for in every format. If I had to pick one player that I expect to hit a HR on Wednesday it would easily be Grichuk.

Khris Davis, OAK vs. HOU - $4,700

Khris Davis might have the worst arm of any left-fielder in baseball, but that doesn't matter in DFS. What does matter is that Davis has been scorching hot lately as he's slugged .718 with two doubles, a triple and four round-trippers in his past 11 games. On Wednesday Davis and the A's will face RHP Mike Fiers and that bodes well for him as he's slugged .522 with 28 of his 24 HR coming against northpaws this season. Davis has only faced his former teammate Fiers across 5 at bats, but he managed to log a double. I think he adds to that extra base hit total on as he is a solid power option for the early slate. While he's sort of pricey Davis is well worth rostering in all formats on on Wednesday.
