Jerad Eickhoff (SP, PHI) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 30% of Fleaflicker leagues

ANALYSIS: While Phillies youngster Aaron Nola captured plenty of attention as he roared out of the gate this season, his teammate Jerad Eickhoff went somewhat unnoticed with an ERA over 3.50 and just 7.40 K/9. In seven starts since the beginning of June, Eickhoff has turned the tables with a 2.25 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 44 innings (not counting one of his more recent starts at Coors, but you shouldn't have started him there anyway).

Just last year, Eickhoff held a 2.65 ERA and 8.65 K/9 in 51 Major League innings. Those numbers illustrate the peak of what Eickhoff can achieve when his pitches are getting results. Very little about his pitching profile has changed over the course of the season; one of the few clearly-upward trend in his stats over his last 10 starts has been the rate at which he gets batters to swing at pitches outside the strike zone. Combining an above-average strand rate with a heightened ability to keep hitters off balance, Eickhoff should continue to produce positive results. He won't be someone you start against every opponent, but he's no longer to be taken for granted as an occasional stream.
