DraftKings DFS – MLB Lineup Picks, Sleepers, and Advice for 8/16/15

As always, my goal with this article is to help you identify viable options to insert into your DraftKings lineups, based on pricing and matchups data. Here's a compilation of players I like when choosing a lineup for Sunday, August 16th.

Editor's Note: If you play on DraftKings, you should check out our Partner FanDuel - they're hosting a one-day Fantasy Baseball league tonight. It's just $5 to enter and pays out $40,000 in cash prizes, including 4K to 1st place!

Offenses to Target for DraftKings Stacking

Milwaukee Brewers LHB vs Aaron Harang

Ordinarily, the offense of the Milwaukee Brewers shouldn’t get too much attention. However, opposing pitcher Aaron Harang has just been terrible in his past few starts. In his past four starts, Harang has given up 42 hits and 8 walks in 20.1 innings of work, culminating in 21 earned runs during that stretch. The left-handed bats in the Brewers lineup actually hold an underrated offense against right-handed pitching, with a wRC+ of 109. Adam Lind and Scooter Gennett both warrant serious consideration for your lineup on Sunday.

Seattle Mariners RHB vs Henry Owens

The left-handed bats of the Seattle Mariners hold a top ten offense against right-handed pitching, with a wRC+ of 113. Nelson Cruz and Austin Jackson should be targeted as great outfield options against Henry Owens. Owens has performed decently since being called up by the Red Sox, but Jackson and Cruz have both been hot as of late and should perform well against the southpaw.

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider for DraftKings

Zack Greinke (SP, LAD) - $12,400

Zack Greinke sits atop the DraftKings rankings for Sunday and should be well worth the price tag against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds hold a bottom-ten offense against right-handed pitching, with a wRC+ of 92. Greinke remains his reliable self despite coming down to earth a bit in his past few starts. He has 11 quality starts in his past 12 outings and easily holds the highest ceiling on Sunday.

Luis Severino (SP, NYY) - $5,500

Severino provides great value as your secondary pitcher, especially if you pair him with an ace as your primary pitcher. Severino will have a top matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, who hold the third best offense in the league against right-handed pitching, with a wRC+ of 108. However, Severino has proved effective against tough AL lineups in the Indians and the Red Sox. He has only walked one batter in 11 innings of work and looks to be very comfortable on the mound.

DFS Infielders to Consider for DraftKings

John Jaso (C, TB) - $2900

John Jaso is a dirt cheap option against opposing pitcher Yovani Gallardo on the road. Jaso has dominated right-handed pitching this year, holding a wRC+ of 150. Jaso has been able to provide some rare consistent production at the catcher position. Also note that Gallardo’s walk rate and home run rate have both significantly increased since his solid performances earlier this summer.

Joey Votto (1B, CIN) - $4300

As good as Greinke should be for Sunday, Votto still looks to be a must-start on the road. Votto holds a fantastic wRC+ of 164 against right-handed pitching this season, and is 9 for his last 20 with two home runs. Votto has also dominated his lifetime matchup against Greinke, going 10 for 24 with three home runs.

DJ LeMahieu (2B, COL) - $4500

The second base position remains a tough spot, because you have to pay up for guaranteed production here. LeMahieu should provide the most value against opposing pitcher Ian Kennedy at Coors Field. LeMahieu holds a wOBA of .354 against right-handed pitching on the season and is also a career 8 for 20 with a home run against Kennedy. Kennedy has been shaky in his past few starts and will likely struggle in this tough stadium.

Adrian Beltre (3B, TEX) - $3500

Adrian Beltre’s investment price has hit a new low, but Beltre looks to have a big day at the plate against opposing pitcher Drew Smyly at home. Smyly has just been activated from the DL and will need to shake off some rust. Beltre on the other hand has been in a groove of late, going 7 for 16 with a home run over his past four games. He holds a wOBA of .326 against left-handed pitching on the year and has also hit Smyly well in a small sample. Beltre is a career 5 for 8 against the southpaw.

Asdrubal Cabrera (SS, TB) - $3600

Asdrubal Cabrera still flies under the radar on DraftKings as a valuable hot bat. Cabrera has maintained his offensive surge and is now hitting .500 with three home runs since the All Star Break. Cabrera’s consistency and power potential have been rare from the shortstop position, and it comes at an incredible bargain on Sunday, as he faces opposing pitcher Yovani Gallardo on the road. Cabrera holds a wRC+ of 103 against right-handed pitching this season.

DFS Outfielders to Consider for DraftKings

Nelson Cruz (OF, SEA) - $5400

As mentioned earlier, Nelson Cruz looks to be a must-start, as he faces opposing pitcher Henry Owens on the road. Cruz is pretty much a must-start against all left-handed pitching at this point, holding an astounding wRC+ of 222 against south paws this season. Cruz is hitting .364 with 13 home runs since the All Star Break and certainly needs to be in your lineup on Sunday.

David Peralta (OF, ARI) - $4000

David Peralta has been a key cog to the Arizona Diamondbacks’ secretly good offense. Peralta will face opposing pitcher Shelby Miller on the road. This should be a nice matchup for Peralta, as he holds a wRC+ of 143 against right-handed pitching this season. He has hit .398 with three home runs since the All Star Break.

Carlos Beltran (OF, NYY) - $3900

Carlos Beltran has flown under the radar all season long because of his terrible April. However, he has maintained great consistency and power as of late. Beltran heads into Sunday with a 10-game hitting streak as well as home runs in consecutive games in Toronto. He will face opposing pitcher Drew Hutchison on the road. Beltran has hit opposing right-handed pitching well this year, holding a wRC+ of 122.
