Week 13 Wide Receivers: Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds

By Johnmaxmena2 (Own work) [CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsThis is it RotoBallers. It’s the last week of the regular season for most leagues, which means it’s do-or-die time. Whether you’ve already clinched and are preparing for the playoffs or are looking for a wide receiver boost to sneak into your lineups, you can always use some help off the waiver wire.

Below, I will examine some Week 13 wide receiver waiver wire pickups and sleepers, based on their current ownership numbers and fantasy outlooks.

Each week of the fantasy football season, I’ll also give you a bonus player to avoid (usually someone who projects to be a popular pickup that I’m not so bullish on). Good luck hitting that waiver wire for Week 13 RotoBallers.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers (WR) - Week 13

Jarvis Landry (MIA) - Owned in 18.0% of Fleaflicker leagues

I advised adding Landry last week, and those who listened to me were handsomely rewarded, as he reeled in seven of ten targets for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Landry has been Ryan Tannehill’s darling for the last few weeks, and I fully expect that connection to continue through the rest of the season. The Dolphins have a tasty matchup against the Jets and their godawful secondary in Week 13, so I would have no problem starting Landry in most formats, PPR especially.

Baller Move: Add in deep standard leagues/all PPR leagues

Stedman Bailey (STL) - Owned in 2.0% of Fleaflicker leagues

I typically want nothing to do with Rams receivers, but Bailey has been trending upward in recent weeks, culminating with a 7/89/1 line in Week 12. Kenny Britt is most certainly not producing like a number one wide receiver, so the opportunity is there for someone to step up, and it looks like Bailey is the guy. The Rams have a great matchup against the Raiders in Week 13, so you may want to use Bailey as a FLEX option.

Baller Move: Add in deep PPR leagues/monitor in standard leagues

Charles Johnson (MIN) - Owned in 20% of Fleaflicker leagues

Johnson has been productive over the last two weeks, as a freak athlete loaded with talent. He and Teddy Bridgewater seem to have developed decent chemistry, as the rookie QB looked his way 11 times in Week 12, leading to a 3/52/1 line. Now while the 11 targets are encouraging, the fact that they were only able to connect three times is proof that your expectations need to be tempered—Brigewater simply isn’t polished enough to make a superstar out of any receiver. Johnson should still be usable in deeper leagues, but he isn’t going to win a week for you.

Baller Move: Add in deep PPR/monitor in standard leagues

James Jones (OAK) - Owned in 40% of Fleaflicker leagues

Jones is still the most reliable option in the subpar Raiders passing game, and is most likely to end up in the endzone of all the Oakland wide receivers. Like Charles Johnson, he is going to be limited by lackluster rookie quarterback play, so your expectations do need to be tempered a bit. However, a decent matchup against a suspect Rams secondary in Week 13 makes Jones a FLEX option in most formats.

Baller Move: Add in all PPR leagues/deep standard leagues

Honorable Mentions

These wide receivers should all be owned in many more leagues than they are. If they're out there, they are no brainer pickups, especially Gordon:

  • Josh Gordon (79% Owned)
  • Mohammed Sanu (77% Owned)
  • Andrew Hawkins (50% Owned)
  • Brandon LaFell (71% Owned)

Wide Receiver To Avoid (Bonus)

Louis Murphy (TB) - Owned in 3.0% of Fleaflicker leagues

Murphy has shown flashes of potential throughout the season, and led the Bucs in receptions in Week 12, producing a 6/113/0 line. I just don’t see any sort of consistency with Murphy though, as it’s still Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson who dominate the Tampa Bay passing game. Murphy is certainly capable of a decent game in Week 13 against the Bengals, but it’s a huge dice roll that I personally wouldn’t be willing to take.
