The San Francisco 49ers added former New England Patriots swing tackle Vederian Lowe in free agency for two years and $12 million. Lowe is "not a replacement" for Trent Williams, though, according to Vic Tafur and Matt Barrows of The Athletic. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder started four games at left tackle last season for New England and has 25 starts in the last three seasons. Williams continues to butt heads with the 49ers on his contract, which is scheduled to count $38 million against the 2026 salary cap. The 49ers must figure out what to do with Williams before March 20, when he's due a $10 million option bonus. There's a chance the 49ers opt to trade him, but only then would Lowe be a potential starter at left tackle for San Francisco. The Williams situation is one to watch, as it could drastically impact their O-line and quarterback Brock Purdy.--Keith Hernandez
