Adonai Mitchell Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
Mitchell was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Texas product was buried on the Colts' depth chart behind Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs, which limited his opportunities to get on the field.

Factor in some frustrating moments and inconsistent play when he did play, and the Colts were content to move on from Mitchell after just a season and a half. With the Jets desperate for playmakers outside of Wilson, it was a great bet for them to make and is paying off immediately, as Mitchell just posted a career-best game in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons with eight receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets.
John Metchie III Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook
The other wide receiver the Jets acquired at this season's trade deadline was the former 44th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Metchie didn't see many opportunities in Houston, which eventually led to him being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles before the start of the 2025 regular season.

Metchie was buried on the Eagles depth chart, so the Jets took a flier on the 25-year-old, and he's looked great as well, recording 14 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 19 targets in four games.
Should I Pickup Adonai Mitchell or John Metchie III For Fantasy Football?
Between the two wideouts, Mitchell pretty clearly has the higher upside and should be prioritized. He has an elite athletic profile with a 9.99 relative athletic score and has shown real target-earning ability at the NFL level. In his three games with the Jets, the 23-year-old has a 30% targets per route run on 82 routes, compared to Metcie at 19% in the same three games, per Fantasy Points Data Suite.
Among 54 wide receivers with at least 50 routes over the last three weeks, Mitchell's 30% TPRR is tied for sixth-highest, and he has had over 100 air yards in all three games. The Jets' low pass volume and poor quarterback situation could limit things at times, but there is a real runway for Mitchell to be a big impact player in fantasy down the stretch.
Mitchell should be a priority add in leagues where he is available and could immediately be plugged into lineups as a flex option. Metchie should still see decent volume alongside Mitchell, but profiles more as a deeper league option as he hasn't shown the high-end upside at the NFL level.
