Fantasy Football Trade Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider trading for or trading away heading into Week 9:
Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings
Trade Value: 75.4
ROS Rank: 16
The Minnesota Vikings have struggled immensely in recent weeks, but wide receiver Justin Jefferson remains a clear WR1 with his team set to travel to Detroit in Week 9. Even though Detroit has had the better of the division matchup in recent years, Jefferson has tormented the Lions during his career.
In just 10 games against Detroit, Jefferson has more than 1,200 yards, 72 catches, and four touchdowns. Detroit ranks 26th against half-PPR receivers this season, largely because it has surrendered 14 receiving touchdowns in seven games.
Notably, Minnesota will bring back starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle), but a second-to-last sack rate behind a beaten-up offensive line remains a major concern. The Lions will see the return of starting cornerback Terrion Arnold (shoulder), but Jefferson still should be starting in every format, as usual.
Verdict: Sell high if you can. He's only scored 1 TD in 2025 as WR13, and J.J. McCarthy is unreliable
Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions
Trade Value: 28.2
ROS Rank: 81
Through his first seven games of 2025, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has recorded 29 catches for 339 yards and two touchdowns on 36 targets. Although LaPorta ranks second on the Lions in targets, he's been less consistent than fantasy managers would ideally like.
The 24-year-old has failed to crack 40 receiving yards in four out of seven contests. LaPorta is facing a Minnesota Vikings defense in Week 9 that has allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards (1,428) in the NFL so far this season. Across two games against Minnesota in 2025, LaPorta recorded eight catches for 88 yards and zero touchdowns on nine targets.
This could be a matchup where fantasy managers would be wise to temper their expectations for LaPorta. He profiles as a low-end starting tight end option in Week 9 against the Vikings.
Verdict: Sell high if possible; he's only TE13 on the season with too many pass-catching options available
DK Metcalf, WR, Steelers
Trade Value: 47.3
ROS Rank: 45
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf finished as the WR12 last week and will look to build on that performance in a Week 9 home bout with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have been strong against the run but vulnerable through the air, giving up the most receptions and third-most fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts.
While Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, and Pittsburgh's tight ends have all shown flashes, Metcalf has consistently been the favorite target of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, especially on deep shots.
Sunday's contest carries a high projected point total and should feature plenty of fantasy production. That said, Metcalf should remain locked into lineups as a high-end WR2 with significant upside.
Verdict: Sell high if possible; he's been an inconsistent weekly performer and currently WR13 in PPR leagues
George Kittle, TE, 49ers
Trade Value: 53.6
ROS Rank: 38
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle caught four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in Week 8. The stat line was not outstanding, but it was enough to qualify as one of the few bright spots for the team on a day where they generated just 223 net yards on offense.
Kittle ranked third on the team with five targets, behind Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs, shoulder) and Christian McCaffrey, and will be in the mix to lead the team in targets in Week 9 against the Giants. Mac Jones (knee) has been tabbed to start while Brock Purdy (toe) is listed as questionable.
Jones has been unafraid to throw this season (37.7 pass attempts/game), and he kept his tight end Jake Tonges in the picture while Kittle was on the shelf (6.5 targets/game in Jones' starts). Kittle is projected as a TE1 with top-five upside and should be plugged into starting lineups for Week 9.
Verdict: Buy low if possible; much better days are ahead with Brock Purdy returning to action
Fantasy Football Trade Rankings Values
The higher the Trade Value number, the higher the priority for targeting in trades. Find your players, add up the trade values of each side of the offer, and see which side of the trade wins.
Who Should I Trade For?
Week 9 Trade Decisions. Today's focus is on specific players - Justin Jefferson, Josh Allen, DK Metcalf, Trey McBride, George Kittle, Jalen Hurts, Sam LaPorta. These are some key fantasy football names heading into this week's matchups.
Using The Trade Values. This is a simple trade value tool, but very powerful. In our fantasy football trade value rankings above, you will see the Trade Value for each player. The higher the number, the higher the priority for targeting in trades. Players with a high trade value number are players that you should be targeting more in trades.
How It Works. Each week, our RotoBaller staff puts together their weekly fantasy football rankings, projections, and trade values based on their research. That information is the core data that is powering the decision-making in this trade value rankings.
How To Calculate Trades. Fantasy football managers will make 1-for-1 trades, or 2-for-3 trades, or 3-for-2 trades, or many other combinations. For each side of the deal, add the trade values together. Whichever side has a higher total number wins the trade. For example, if someone is offering you three players, add the trade values of those three players together. Does the value of those three players exceed the values of the player(s) you are trading away? If so then it's a good deal for you.
