Should I drop Jameson Williams for fantasy football Week 9? Is Jameson Williams a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
Detroit Lions big-play provider Jameson Williams has been a feast-or-famine player for fantasy footballers in 2025.
I thought after Williams signed a multimillion-dollar deal with the Lions in the offseason that it would cement his place in their high-powered offense. That has not been the case, however. While Pro Bowler Amon-Ra St. Brown and superb tight end Sam LaPorta are leading the team in targets and receptions, Williams only has 17 catches in seven games and is averaging under five targets per game.
Offensive coordinator John Morton still calls Williams’ number for long passes, but between the team’s top two targets and top two running backs (Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery), there are not many touches left over for Williams. Should you drop him if you are rostering him right now? Here is my take:
Should I Drop Jameson Williams in Fantasy Football?
In standard leagues, I would drop Williams this week. While he has had two great games this year that have helped fantasy managers, he has had five games where he had less than 45 receiving yards in each and scored no touchdowns. In Week 5, Williams had just one catch for nine yards. In Week 7, he had no catches at all.
Williams has become untrustworthy to put in a starting lineup in fantasy leagues. Yes, you can use him as a low-priced boom-or-bust option in a DFS contest. Yes, in dynasty leagues, he is young and talented, and the argument can be made that you should hold onto him because he might have a string of 1,000-yard years over the next five seasons. But unless you have roster space galore because all of your guys have already had their byes and no one on your team ever gets injured, moving on from Williams for a more consistent receiver is best.
There are plenty of other more reliable receivers available via trade or on the waiver wire in your fantasy league. If St. Brown or LaPorta gets injured, feel free to pick Williams back up after you drop him. But in a standard year-to-year league, to rely on someone as wishy-washy week-to-week as Williams is with his stats is just too difficult.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Chimere Dike, Tennessee Titans
One thing Chimere Dike has going for him is that Tennessee trails in games most of the time, so the Titans are forced to throw most of the time. This is why the surprising rookie has 11 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown over his last two games. Another reason is that WR1 Calvin Ridley is out with a hamstring injury, which has opened the door for Dike to have more Cam Ward passes come his way.
Malik Washington, Miami Dolphins
You would not think a wide receiver only averaging 5.4 yards per catch on the season would be worthy of a waiver wire pick. Diminutive Malik Washington’s role in Miami’s passing attack has expanded, though, thanks to the injuries to speedster Tyreek Hill and tight end Darren Waller. Washington scored his first TD of the season last week and faces Baltimore’s 28th-ranked pass defense this week.

Tre Tucker, Las Vegas Raiders
After exploding for 145 yards and a trio of touchdowns in Week 3, Tre Tucker has only managed 178 yards and zero touchdowns in the four games since. Tucker should be fresh coming off a bye week, though, and should be Geno Smith’s WR1 and second-best target behind the returning Brock Bowers this week when the Raiders host Jacksonville and its 27th-ranked pass defense. Look for Tucker to get six-to-eight targets and have one of his better games of the season.
