Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Dylan Sampson, RB, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson is off to a fast start in the passing game in his rookie season, having caught 11 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown through two games. He will hope to keep it going at home against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3.
Sampson's role in the backfield is likely to be scaled back, however, as fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins is expected to take over as the team's lead back this weekend.
That being said, Sampson should continue to see a decent workload in the passing game, giving him value as a low-end RB3 in PPR formats this weekend.
Rashid Shaheed, WR, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed turned five targets into four receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against the 49ers. He's been targeted 14 times through two games by starting quarterback Spencer Rattler.
With Kellen Moore's pass-heavy offense unlikely to slow down, opportunities should remain plentiful. Shaheed continues to be a big-play threat, and he faces a Seahawks defense in Week 3 that has allowed at least one reception of 45+ yards in each of their first two contests.
Hunter Renfrow, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Hunter Renfrow found the endzone twice in the team's 27-22 loss on Sunday. With the Panthers going down by 24 points in the second half of Week 2, they were forced to abandon the run and turn to the passing game. Renfrow was a huge part of the comeback, tying for second on the team with nine targets, just one shy of leader Tetairoa McMillan.
Operating as a security blanket for quarterback Bryce Young, Renfrow caught seven passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns. The seven catches and nine targets were encouraging, but even more so was the trust Young showed in Renfrow in the red zone. Although it's hard to say whether he will continue to be a staple in this offense, the lack of wide receiver depth behind McMillan is an encouraging sign.
In Week 3, the Panthers will host the Atlanta Falcons, who just held the Minnesota Vikings to 120 passing yards on Sunday night. In PPR leagues, if you need wide receiver help and have a spot on your bench, it would be wise to add Renfrow. Do not use a waiver on Renfrow, but he would be an excellent free-agent pickup if he goes unclaimed.
Calvin Austin III, WR, Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III has had a turbulent start to the season but will hope to take advantage of a soft matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 3. New England has struggled to contain opposing wideouts, allowing the second-most fantasy points to the position through two games.
While star Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) has a chance to return to the lineup on Sunday, he is likely to focus his attention on DK Metcalf. This could leave Austin open for targets from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with whom he flashed chemistry back in Week 1.
The 26-year-old hasn't earned weekly fantasy consideration just yet, but he has some sneaky flex appeal in deeper formats this week.
Rachaad White, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White was surprisingly solid during last week's win over the Houston Texans. White only saw two rushing attempts and one reception in the season opener, but came to play in Week 2. He rushed 10 times for 65 yards with a touchdown on the ground.
White also hauled in both his targets for one additional yard through the air in the win. The 26-year-old remains the backup to Bucky Irving, which is going to limit his upside. However, the Bucs are banged up with Chris Godwin (ankle), Jalen McMillan (neck) both out.
Also, Emeka Egbuka (groin) listed as questionable for Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets. That being said, the Bucs might need White to play a bigger role on offense this week. There's certainly some risk to starting White, but when active he has decent PPR upside.
