Mason Taylor Injury Report: Will Taylor Play in Week 2 for Fantasy Football?

Mason Taylor - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Will Mason Taylor play in Week 2 for fantasy football? Is Mason Taylor injured or hurt heading into Week 2 of 2025? Read the latest Mason Taylor injury report.

The Jets selected Mason Taylor in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he entered Week 1 as the team's No. 1 tight end. His debut wasn't anything to write home about, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on his role moving forward. Rookie tight ends often start slow before receiving larger workloads.

Now, as we head into Week 2, fantasy managers are facing a new obstacle, with the rookie appearing on the injury report. His status is uncertain heading into Sunday, causing fantasy managers to stress over his availability.

If he is available, is he worth a start, especially as they face the Bills? Let's examine Taylor's outlook for Week 2 and what it means for fantasy managers heading into Sunday's game.

Mason Taylor Fantasy Football Injury Update

In his NFL debut, Taylor brought in his only target for 20 yards as the Jets lost to the Steelers, 34-32. He registered just one target in the opener, while Jeremy Ruckert doubled that with two. Still, Taylor ran 20 routes to Ruckert's five, cementing his status as the team's lead tight end.

The 21-year-old has a firm grasp on the TE1 role in the offense, which gives him long-term streaming appeal. Managers can breathe a little easier knowing he's still atop the depth chart, although they shouldn't expect increased targets right away.

The rookie now finds himself on the injury report heading into Week 2. He hurt his ankle in training camp and re-aggravated it in Week 1. Taylor missed practice on Wednesday, returned as a limited participant on Thursday, and participated fully on Friday. It's optimistic to see this progression throughout the week, but he remains questionable.

Is Mason Taylor Playing in Week 2?

Taylor appears to be trending towards playing this weekend. He was a full participant to close the week, and that usually signals a player is on track to play. Still, the team will make the final call on his availability on Sunday morning.

The Jets have a 1 p.m. kickoff, so managers will have some clarity before lineups lock. Just don't forget to take him out of your lineup if he's sitting (we've all made that mistake before, and I'm trying to save you from the heartbreak).

If Taylor does miss time, Ruckert, Stone Smartt, and Jelani Woods would see increased duties, with Ruckert benefiting the most. Those players aren't fantasy-relevant, even if Taylor sits.

Mason Taylor Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 2

Even if Taylor gets the go, this isn't the week to roll with him in fantasy football. Buffalo is known for being a tough defense against tight ends, allowing just five touchdowns to the position last year. In their 2025 debut, the Bills held Mark Andrews to one single five-yard catch on one target, displaying their skill against the position.

Taylor is intriguing due to the rookie factor and his starting role, but the starter-level volume isn't there yet. He's facing a difficult opponent, so you're best off stashing him for the future. He'll have the potential to be a streamer later in the season.

The Jets lack proven pass-catchers beyond Garrett Wilson, so Taylor could gain a larger role as the season continues. New York invested second-round draft capital in the TE, showing the team will want to use him as a long-term piece.

For Week 2, Taylor should be left on the bench. If you're in a bind and decide to take the risk, make sure to have a backup plan in case his ankle keeps him off the field.
