Recent Fantasy Football Wide Receiver News

Dont'e Thornton Jr., Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders rookie wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. recorded two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown in his team's final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. The fourth-rounder out of Tennessee finishes the preseason with three catches on eight targets for 43 yards and a score. Thornton Jr.'s touchdown grab against Arizona came from starting quarterback Geno Smith on the team's first offensive possession.

Thornton Jr. is listed as a starter on the team's depth chart, and he has a chance to emerge as the team's WR2 behind veteran Jakobi Meyers. He could be a solid value as a late-round dart-throw for fantasy managers, particularly in deeper leagues.

Jauan Jennings, San Francisco 49ers

Per San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, wide receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) is expected to be ready for the team's Week 1 road tilt with their division-rival Seattle Seahawks. "I expect him to be back; he should be back from it," said Shanahan. "But you never know with a calf," he'd add ominously. Jennings has dealt with a nagging calf injury since the spring that's held him out of the majority of camp.

Shanahan's wording doesn't give fantasy managers any extra solace amid the 28-year-old's contract extension disputes, but this is the first word of a timetable for his return, so that's at least mildly encouraging. Jennings will have an excellent chance to build on his breakout 2024 campaign if he's healthy, as the 49ers' wide receiving corps is alarmingly thin. If he's not, fellow wideout Ricky Pearsall, tight end George Kittle, and running back Christian McCaffrey would stand to benefit the most from a volume standpoint. Skyy Moore figures to operate as the team's third WR in that case.

Matthew Golden, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden hauled in a 39-yard strike on two targets from starting quarterback Malik Willis in the Packers' 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Golden, the Packers' first-round pick this past April, had to adjust and come back to the ball a little bit, but made a nice adjustment downfield to secure the longest reception of the day for both teams.

The Packers' intent on selecting Golden in the first round signals a big role for the talented rookie out of Texas, and fantasy managers agree. Golden has been a mid-round upside staple in an offense that looks to generate more offense through the air this season than last season's iteration. Could Golden be the next fantasy find like last season's Ladd McConkey and Brian Thomas Jr.? Golden certainly has that level of upside as a WR3 in fantasy drafts.

Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton delivered a strong performance in Saturday's 28-19 preseason win over the New Orleans Saints, hauling in four receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown. Sutton has consistently been drafted in the fifth to sixth round range of fantasy leagues and remains the clear WR1 in Denver's offense.

With second-year quarterback Bo Nix showing steady development, Sutton is positioned to thrive as the focal point of the passing game. Playing in the high-scoring AFC West, Sutton profiles as a reliable mid-round option with upside as a weekly fantasy starter in 2025.

Elic Ayomanor, Tennessee Titans

Wide receiver Elic Ayomanor started and caught all three of his targets for 25 yards in Tennessee's preseason-concluding victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday. The rookie from Stanford already has developed a connection with Titans quarterback Cameron Ward and looks to be carving out a role for 2025.

Ayomanor set up a touchdown with a red zone target on Friday, a week after hauling in a 47-yard pass from Ward. Though Calvin Ridley is all but sure to be the Titans' No. 1 receiver, Ayomanor's competition for playing time is journeyman Van Jefferson and fellow rookie Chimere Dike, making immediate playing time look realistic.
