Nacho Alvarez Jr. to Serve as Starting Third Baseman the Rest of the Year
Nacho Alvarez Jr. will serve as the team's third baseman for the rest of the year now that Austin Riley (abdomen) has been shut down for the season. Manager Brian Snitker suggested that Alvarez might be best utilized as a utility man in the future, but for now, he'll continue to see everyday playing time at the hot corner in what has been a lost 2025 for Atlanta. He has a weak .638 OPS at the plate over 91 plate appearances, but Alvarez has played great defense while filling in for Riley. The 22-year-old former fifth-rounder in 2022 out of Riverside City College is still searching for his first major-league home run after debuting in the big leagues in 2024 and is also slashing .247/.330/.309 with six RBI and 11 runs scored in 24 games played. Fantasy managers in the vast majority of leagues should continue to ignore him.
