Drew Gilbert to Make MLB Debut on Friday
Drew Gilbert has been promoted to the major league roster and is slated to bat ninth in his MLB debut on Friday evening when the Giants face the Washington Nationals. Gilbert was traded from the New York Mets earlier this season in a deal that sent relief pitcher Tyler Rogers to Queens. Gilbert was once selected in the first round with the 28th overall pick by the Houston Astros out of Tennessee. Through 87 games at Triple-A this season, spent mainly in Syracuse, Gilbert posted a strong .254/.363/.448 line with an .811 OPS. During this stretch, Gilbert launched 12 home runs and added 18 doubles. During the 2024 campaign, he held a much lower .706 OPS at Triple-A. With Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) on the 10-day IL, Gilbert could carve out a role for the time being. He is worth adding in all NL-only leagues for the time being.
