Leody Taveras Designated for Assignment
Leody Taveras for assignment and recalled outfielder Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Taveras began the season with the Texas Rangers and hit .241 (19-for-79) with a homer, eight RBI and six steals before being cut and scooped off waivers by the Mariners. The 26-year-old only made it 28 games with Seattle, going 16-for-92 (.174) with two homers, nine RBI and three stolen bases. Taveras had double-digit home runs the previous two seasons with Texas and had a career-high 23 stolen bases last year, but he'll now be searching for his third organization of the season unless he clears waivers and accepts an outright assignment to Tacoma. With Luke Raley (oblique) on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Canzone could see action in right field against right-handers in Seattle going forward.
