RBC Canadian Open Tournament Power Rankings: Top 10 Players To Watch

TourPicks ranks his top-10 Players to watch for at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto. Insights on the top-10 golfers for the week and reasons why they are primed to win.

One week before the most challenging and brutal test in professional golf, the PGA Tour makes a quick pit stop at a brand new venue, North of the border at TPC Toronto for the RBC Canadian Open. The field is a bit of a mixed bag, headlined by the auspicious return of Rory McIlroy, and will also mark the first professional start for former amateur Luke Clanton.

In this article, given the historical context and data, I'll break down my Top 10 Power Rankings for players based on recent form and specific player profiles that I believe are the best fits for TPC Toronto.  With no tournament history, I heavily examined the overhead course diagrams and determined that this course will likely best suit players who hit it far, featuring longer length par 4s and forgiving landing areas.

Let’s dive right into my Top 10 Power Rankings for the 2025 RBC Canadian Open:

No. 10 - Keith Mitchell

  • Mitchell is one of the best ball strikers in the field. Ranks inside the Top 20 in SG: Approach and SG: OTT, both long-term and short-term.

  • Large greens should mitigate his biggest weakness, which is his around the green game. As always with Mitchell, it will come down to his ability to make putts on the weekend.
  • TPC Toronto leans heavily into the TPC Model of course design. Mitchell ranks 4th in SG: Total on TPC Courses.

No. 9 - Wyndham Clark

  • Recent struggles OTT for Clark have been primarily linked to his lack of accuracy. He should be able to get away with wayward drives here more than normal with the wide landing areas at TPC Toronto.

  • Clark consistently hits it far and HIGH off the tee. He ranks eighth in average Carry Distance over the past year in the field.
  • He's been lost since an injury that occurred during The PLAYERS. Played alongside Keegan Bradley at the most recent Presidents Cup, and he NEEDS a good summer for his ex-partner to consider him for Team USA in Bethpage.

No. 8 - Sam Burns

  • Five consecutive quality starts for Sam Burns on the PGA Tour, where he has gained strokes. T12 last week at The Memorial to keep the momentum rolling.

  • Hottest putter on the PGA Tour. Burns has gained +24 strokes through Putting in his past four starts.
  • Burns would be ranked higher, but he's been masking some horrid iron play with his putter. It's tough to predict that trend continuing.

No. 7 - Sungjae Im

  • Sungjae Im is reliably solid OTT at the moment. He ranks Top-15 on long courses in particular and possesses a nice blend of distance x accuracy.

  • Still struggling to dial in his approach play, but he possesses exceptional ability around the greens to get himself up and down. second-best SG: ARG in the field.
  • Im ranks third-best in strokes gained total on TPC Courses since 2024.

No. 6 - Ludvig Aberg

  • Outrageously low ranking for Aberg this week, given this field and his talent. I've watched him closely the past few weeks, and he is not in winning form at the moment.

  • Aberg hits it plenty far, and his long-term skill set is well-suited for TPC Toronto. I still have concerns about his inconsistency with his irons.
  • Typically, the longer the golf course, the bigger the advantage for Ludwig Aberg. This course features a whopping four par 4's that play over 500 yards this week.

No. 5 - Robert MacIntyre

  • Defending RBC Canadian Open Champion, albeit at a different venue last season.
  • He's quietly rounding into form. T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, followed by T20 at The Memorial Tournament last week.
  • Despite not being the longest of hitters, MacIntyre excels OTT on long courses with difficult rough to manage.

No. 4 - Shane Lowry

  • Lowry has been the second-best iron player in the field. He ranks second in SG: Approach over the past 36 rounds played.
  • He often plays well on courses in this region that feature long rough and bent grass greens.
  • Second place at the Truist Championship one month ago. He has the ability to contend and has shown that. Lowry seems due for a big win.

No. 3 - Taylor Pendith

  • I love this course fit for Pendrith. The Canadian mashes the ball OTT and should be able to swing freely with his Driver early and often in Toronto.

  • Pendrith elevates his game on longer courses. He ranks third-best in the field in strokes gained over long courses.
  • Underrated approach play pairs nicely when you know the kind of distance he possesses. He just gained +7.3 on Approach at The Memorial last week!

No. 2 - Corey Conners

  • Two Canadians and two Kent State University alumni make it into the top three of my rankings. Conners seems destined to one day win this tournament. He's been the best Canadian player over the past five to 10 years.

  • Tier A Ballstriker on the PGA Tour. Conners ranks third in SG: OTT and seventh in SG: Approach over the past 36 rounds.
  • His efforts to improve his putting have not gone unnoticed by me. Conners has now gained strokes putting in seven of his last 10 tournaments.

No. 1 - Rory McIlroy

  • What to do with Rory McIlroy is the big question this week. He's clearly the best player in the field, and this is a perfect course for him to separate himself with his skill set.
  • Some potentially valid personal concerns will make the betting price hard to get to. He's likely going to have to answer some questions regarding his awkward absences from the media center at Quail Hollow and skipping Jack's Place.
  • Second best in the field in Driving Distance. McIlroy has the ability to turn some of these longer dog-leg holes into Driver-Wedge, which is an ability that only a few in the field possess. I'd love to see him get back on track to throw some additional juice into the US Open preview next week. He can do so if he captures another win in Canada! They love him in Toronto.

Enjoy the RBC Canadian Open, and thanks for reading! Good luck, RotoBaller family!
