ANALYSIS: With Arizona's primary closer Paul Sewald on the shelf to start the season with an oblique injury, it has been Kevin Ginkel filling in as closer and getting the save opportunities. Ginkel's first two appearances of the season were mostly clean, not allowing a run in either, although they were not save situations. His next two were high-leverage situations, where one was a tie game and the other a save opportunity, and the righty allowed earned runs in both which resulted in a blown save in the latter.
Since then the 30-year-old has settled back in, getting two opportunities to close out games, both of which were successful. He pitched two innings, allowing just one hit, walked two, and struck out four on his way to earning saves in each.

Ginkel had a fine season for the D-backs in 2023, appearing in 60 games, going 9-1 with four saves, eight holds, 2.48 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 27.6% K% which included 70 strikeouts over 65 1/3 IP. Though there may be another hiccup along the way, Ginkel should get at least a handful more save opportunities before Sewald returns. At this point, it's expected that Sewald will return in May, though there is no definitive date set. Ginkel is still available in over 40% of Yahoo leagues but should be rostered in 12-team leagues and deeper.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues CALL-UP ETA: July ANALYSIS: Unlike many players currently in the minor leagues, Chandler Simpson has proven he can be a valuable fantasy player at the MLB level. Brady House - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: The Nationals went viral on social media this week for making a fun call-up. They called up their bat dog from Triple-A. While this was very cute and should improve the vibes a little bit in Washington, I don't think Bruce the Bat Dog will help […]

Samuel Basallo - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: Samuel Basallo might be the best hitter in the minors right now, and he has catcher eligibility. What more do you need to know (I know catcher is super deep this year, but still)? Basallo has been an age-to-level monster for the majority of his pro […]

Andrew Painter - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: Painter's last two starts don't give a ton of confidence that he is ready to be in the majors. It may not even be before the All-Star break before we see him, but that does not mean we are in stash territory. The good news is, […]

Colby Thomas - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues CALL-UP ETA: July ANALYSIS: The A's continue to lose, and Colby Thomas continues to hit homers in Triple-A. The A's just got swept by the Angels, bringing their record to 26-44. While plays like Denzel Clarke's HR robbery can generate a spark for a team, the A's might need […]
