Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups - Top Fantasy Football WR Adds for Week 9 include Rashid Shaheed, Demario Douglas, more

Khalil Shakir - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Justin Carter's fantasy football WR waiver wire pickups for Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season. His free agent wide receivers to add, stream and stash off waivers.

With last week in the rearview, it's time to look ahead to Week 9 with our wide receiver fantasy football waiver wire pickups. There are some good upside wide receivers out there on the waiver wire, so this is a good chance for you to bolster your fantasy lineup.

Below, you'll find some wide receivers that you should be targeting on the fantasy football waiver wire ahead of Week 9. Not all of these waiver wire options are the same. Some players may be better in PPR or deeper leagues, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all comparison. Use your best judgment when deciding which of these players is the right fit for your roster.

Be sure to also check out our Waiver Wire Adds for Week 9 for help at all the skill positions. All players on this list are around 50% rostered or below.

Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups For Week 9

Rashid Shaheed, New Orleans Saints - 36% rostered

I'm not usually big on players who don't get a lot of targets, because their production depends heavily on them getting a lot of production on limited looks. However, Rashid Shaheed has been a really intriguing boom/bust play all season. He was only targeted three times this week, but caught all three for 153 yards and a touchdown. He's found the end zone three times this season and has been very active in the deep passing game, though he also has four games with under 35 yards. Real feast or famine year, but he's worth rostering if you need a risky upside play.

Tank Dell, Houston Teans - 50% rostered

Tank Dell didn't have a lot of yards in his return, but I liked the way the Texans worked to get him the ball. He was targeted four times, catching three passes for 16 yards, but the Texans also got him three touches in the run game, with Dell gaining 15 yards. Dell's a speedy player who can generate YAC in the open field, but it just didn't really happen on Sunday. I'm still high on the possibility that it happens a fair amount going forward.

Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders - 51% rostered

Curtis Samuel exited Sunday's loss to the Eagles with a toe injury and didn't return. Meanwhile, Jahan Dotson had his best game of the season, catching eight of his 10 targets for 108 yards and a score. After seeing his role drop off enough that I was comfortable dropping him in shallow formats, Dotson now has 18 targets over the past two games. If Samuel misses time, Dotson is a must-add and a must-play. If Samuel doesn't miss time, Dotson is still worth adding in 12-team leagues.

Brandin Cooks, Dallas Cowboys - 41% rostered

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks hasn't seen a ton of targets this season. He's been targeted more than four times just once all year. Still, Cooks is doing well with the looks he's getting, as he's found the end zone in the past two Cowboys games. He's touchdown dependent, but he's worth a look because of how his role has evolved in Dallas.

K.J. Osborn, Minnesota Vikings - 52% rostered

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles on Sunday, ending his season. The team still managed to win its third game in a row, but it'll be tough sledding with Cousins out. One thing I think that might mean: the team will be very careful to not rush Justin Jefferson back from his hamstring injury, opening up more snaps for K.J. Osborn. On Sunday, Osborn was targeted 10 times, catching eight passes for 99 yards. He has at least four catches and 47 yards in four straight games. There's some appeal here was a WR3/4 play until Jefferson returns.

Wide Receiver Deeper League Pickups For Week 9

Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills - 1% rostered

It was a big game for Khalil Shakir on Thursday against the Buccaneers, as he caught all six of his targets for 92 yards. It was by far his best game of the season and just the second time this season that Shakir had more than one reception. Considering that other game was in Week 7, there might be something here. His route participation has spiked and this week he played 65% of the Bills' snaps, by far a season high. I think there's some real upside in full PPR leagues.

Jayden Reed, Green Bay Packers - 17% rostered

Romeo Doubs had 18 receiving yards this week. Christian Watson had 33. Jayden Reed? 83 of them on four receptions. The rookie has either 50-plus yards or a touchdown in four of the past five games. You'd like to see the Packers offense be a little more consistent before you invest too much in Reed, but his recent production is an encouraging sign.

Demario Douglas, New England Patriots - 3% rostered

Update: Bourne tore his ACL. Consider Douglas the top priority add in deep leagues now.

Demario Douglas has been targeted 13 times over the past two games, plus has a carry in each game. New England is working to get him the football, even if he isn't delivering a ton of production. That could change if Kendrick Bourne misses time with a knee injury, as Douglas likely becomes the team's No. 1 receiver at that point.

Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals - 15% rostered

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson has established himself as the team's second option at wide receiver. This week, he was targeted six times, catching four of those for 58 yards. He has 11 targets over the past two games and has a good bit of upside if Kyler Murray takes over at quarterback at some point in the next few games. However, his ceiling is a little too low as long as Joshua Dobbs is still under center.

Van Jefferson, Atlanta Falcons - 3% rostered

Speculative add here, but Drake London was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Titans and didn't return. The Falcons also went with Taylor Heinicke at QB in the second half. If London misses time AND the Falcons stick with Heinicke, I think there's a chance for Jefferson to have some value. He was targeted five times this week, catching three of them for 24 yards.

Jonathan Mingo, Carolina Panthers - 6% rostered

Carolina gave five targets to Jonathan Mingo this week, who caught four of those for 62 yards. It was a good showing for the rookie, though he hasn't really had a breakout game yet. It might be coming if quarterback Bryce Young can continue to play as well as he did on Sunday. Mingo is worth a speculative add right now in deep leagues. It wouldn't take much for him to supplant D.J. Chark Jr. in the pecking order in Carolina.
