Ezekiel Elliott is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 46% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: When the New England Patriots signed Ezekiel Elliott, the expectation seemed to be that he was really more of a depth option behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson was coming off a 1,040-yard season in 2022 and looked firmly established as the team's lead back.
But former Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott has ended up garnering a pretty big chunk of the Patriots rushing load. Against the Bills in Week 7, Elliott led the team in rushing attempts with 11, gaining 31 yards and scoring a touchdown. He did so while playing just 35% of the team's snaps.
Stevenson is still the lead back and plays on passing downs, but Elliott might have siphoned off a little more early-down work than anticipated. He's also getting goal-line work, scoring touchdowns in two consecutive games.
Elliott's not the same player he was in Dallas. He's finished with under three yards per carry in four of the team's seven games so far this season. He's only had one game with over 34 rushing yards, which came back in Week 3 when he had 16 carries for 80 yards against the Jets.
Fantasy managers shouldn't be excited about adding Ezekiel Elliott off of the waiver wire this week, but managers in 14-team leagues who have a need for a touchdown-dependent RB3/4 option could do worse than Zeke. He's had eight or more touches in all but one game this season, so there's decent volume here, even if Elliott has struggled to create yardage.
