Brandon Bielak, 4.5 Strikeouts (LOWER)
The Colorado Rockies have the second-best batting average against right-handed pitching and are middle of the pack in strikeouts. Bielak has not been dominant in the strikeout department either, carrying a 7.04 K/9 through 47 1/3 innings this season. The young Astros starter also gives up a ton of hard contact and barrels, 50.6% HardHit% and 14.3% Barrel%. There is a real possibility that the Rockies knock Bielak around and make it difficult to reach five strikeouts in this outing.
Xander Bogaerts, 0.5 Singles (LOWER)
The Padres are facing Shohei Ohtani tonight, who is one of the best players in baseball on both sides of the ball. Ohtani has an incredible 33.2% strikeout rate and ranks in the 88th percentile in Whiff%. Bogaerts has faced Ohtani in the past, going 1-for-6 against the Japanese pitcher. Bogaerts may continue to struggle against Ohtani on Tuesday.
Francisco Alvarez, 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (LOWER)
Francisco Alvarez has been an offensive bright spot for the New York Mets, contributing 13 home runs and 27 RBI from the catcher position. That being said, he has not been as productive lately. The young catcher has slashed .107/.194/.250 over the last 14 days. Alvarez has only collected three hits and two RBI in his last 31 plate appearances. Zach Davies is not a difficult matchup, but Alvarez is in the midst of a slump and it's unclear when it when end.
Underdog Fantasy for July 4 - LOWER
Chris Bassitt, 5.0 Strikeouts (HIGHER)
Bassitt has had an up-and-down season so far in 2023. The veteran pitcher has six starts of at least six innings and zero earned runs, but he has also had four starts where he allow four or more earned runs. In his last start, Bassitt racked up a season-best 12 strikeouts in six innings. The Chicago White Sox are a team with some swing-and-miss in their game with the ninth-most strikeouts against right-handed pitching. Bassitt will look to build upon his strong start.
Freddie Freeman, 1.5 Total Bases (HIGHER)
Freddie Freeman has once again been one of the best hitters in baseball. His xBA, xSLG, and xwOBA all rank in the 97th percentile or better this season. The Dodgers are facing right-handed starter Luis L. Ortiz, who owns a 4.11 ERA and 6.78 xERA. This season, Freeman is batting .314 with five home runs and 21 doubles against right-handed pitching. Freeman should dominate in this matchup.
Kris Bryant, 0.5 Singles (HIGHER)
Colorado Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant has missed much of the season to injury, but has recently returned from the injured list. In his three games since returning, Bryant has collected hits in two games as well as a multi-hit performance in his most recent game. The Rockies face Astros' starter Brandon Bielak, who owns a 4.37 ERA and a 6.28 xERA. This should be a decent matchup for Bryant since he's actually carrying a higher batting average against right-handed pitching this season.
