Is Kendre Miller Injured or Healthy? Fantasy Football Injury Update

Kendre Miller - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Rookies, Draft Sleepers

Is Kendre Miller injured or healthy? Read more about the status of the Saints rookie running back and how the team can use him and whether he should be on your fantasy football team.

Running back Kendre Miller is still working his way back from the meniscus injury that sidelined him for the 2023 National Championship Game. His absence is one of the factors that led to TCU’s disappointing performance against Georgia in the title game.

That’s why he had limited participation during the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp. They want to ensure that he gets a clean bill of health before he engages in more physical endeavors. As he continues his recovery, Miller didn’t hold back by saying he will compete for the starting running back position.

The Saints believe Miller will be ready by training camp by late July. That schedule will coincide with Alvin Kamara’s court hearing regarding his battery case. Therefore, Miller will have the opportunity to prove that New Orleans didn’t waste their 2023 third-round pick on him. There’s a lot to like about Miller’s game. He has the leg strength to fight for additional yards and the mobility to change direction when needed. He used these attributes to collect 1,399 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his final year with the Horned Frogs.

Alvin Kamara’s Fate Is Kendre Miller’s Opening

The length of Kamara’s trial is indefinite. It could drag along for months and might continue to proceed even when the season has started. Before the final verdict, the NFL will decide on the sanctions bestowed on the two-time All-Pro.

Kamara will likely get a suspension whether he is proven guilty or innocent. In the NFL’s case, they might decide that Kamara must serve a six-game suspension to start the season. Losing him might cripple the Saints’ hopes of regaining the NFC South division title and an outright playoff berth.

Luckily, the Saints’ first six games for 2023 will be against teams that did not participate in last season’s playoffs. However, every game counts in a wide-open division that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won in 2022 with an 8-9 record.

That’s where Kendre Miller comes in. The Saints are in good hands if he will live up to the comparisons of his game to Kamara’s. He can form a potent backfield duo with Jamaal Williams, last year’s rushing touchdowns leader.

However, improving on his pass-catching and route running will turn Miller into an all-around back. Pete Carmichael’s offense won’t miss a beat if Miller proves to be worthy of the starting role. If that happens, his cap-friendly salary may even make Kamara expendable.
