NFL Draft Recap: Philadelphia Eagles: 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

How did Philadelphia Eagles do in the 2023 NFL Draft? Which rookies will have a major fantasy impact in 2023?

The Philadelphia Eagles made seven selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. Much to the dismay of other fanbases and front office executives, general manager Howie Roseman once again pulled off a masterful draft class.

They continue to invest in defense by drafting for every level of their formation. These moves could help propel them to a return trip to the Super Bowl and possibly even win it all.

When you think the Eagles have little room for improvement, Roseman swung for the fences and built a class that could make a long-term difference.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Who did the Philadelphia Eagles select in the 2023 NFL Draft

  • Round 1, 9th overall – Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
  • Round 1, 30th overall – Nolan Smith, LB, Georgia
  • Round 3, 65th overall – Tyler Steen, OT, Alabama
  • Round 3, 66th overall – Sydney Brown, S, Illinois
  • Round 4, 105th overall – Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
  • Round 6, 188th overall – Tanner McKee, QB, Stanford
  • Round 7, 249th overall – Moro Ojomo, DE, Texas

Welcome the Philadelphia Bulldogs!

Chances are that your players will get drafted if you’ve had the best defense in college football. However, the Eagles seem to have an affinity with former Georgia Bulldogs players. They drafted Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean last year.

This season, Philadelphia took Carter, Smith, and Ringo. Carter is arguably the most athletic prospect in the draft. He’s an excellent addition after Javon Hargrave left and Fletcher Cox’s one-year contract expires. Meanwhile, Smith has tremendous upside as a late first-rounder. Ringo has the skill to take over from James Bradberry or Darius Slay eventually. Those three picks alone are a fantastic haul for the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts Has a Backup

Hurts is the undisputed starter for the Eagles after earning a mega-extension. But just in case, they’ve added Marcus Mariota and drafted McKee. They’ve seen how the San Francisco 49ers crumbled without a quarterback after Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson suffered injuries. The Eagles don’t want that to happen, given the high expectations for the squad.

Philadelphia Eagles 2023 NFL Draft Grade

The Eagles get an A for the 2023 class because they’ve got potential draft steals in Ringo and Smith. Selecting Carter alone gives them a high mark, despite questions about his behavior. These rookies get in line, knowing that their team has a legitimate chance of becoming Super Bowl champions. Seeing players like Cox, Slay, Bradberry, Haason Reddick, and Brandon Graham impose high standards on themselves will motivate the former Georgia players to do the same.

Getting Steen is also a feather in the cap for Philadelphia, especially after the departures of Andre Dillard and Isaac Seumalo. He will also absorb a ton of wisdom from the battle-hardened veterans who make up arguably the best offensive line in the NFL.
