Is Jordan Addison A Good Fit For The Vikings? Fantasy Football Outlook

Jordan Addison - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Rookies, Draft Sleepers

Is Jordan Addison a suitable wide receiver to play alongside Justin Jefferson? The Minnesota Vikings certainly hope so. Lance Fernandez explores Addison's fit in this Fantasy Football Outlook article.

The Minnesota Vikings’ promising 2022 NFL season went up in smoke after losing at home in the Wild Card Round playoff against the New York Giants. In that game, T.J. Hockenson led Minnesota with 129 rushing yards.

Conversely, reigning Offensive Player of the Year Justin Jefferson was a relative non-factor, finishing with seven catches for 47 yards and zero touchdowns. The Giants positioned extra defenders around him to neutralize his game. The plan worked as Jefferson lost in his postseason debut.

Ideally, Adam Thielen would have stepped up when Jefferson had a bad game. But he didn’t do much for the Vikings, ending up with three catches for 50 yards. With Thielen gone, Jefferson needs another wideout that opposing defensive backs will also pay attention to.

Jordan Addison: The Perfect Complement to Jefferson?

Enter Jordan Addison after the Vikings took him with the 23rd overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. He does have blazing speed, as proven by his 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Addison has the burst and the agility to become a threat in the short, intermediate, or deep passing game. He also has fluid-like movement to execute complex routes with ease.

He is a fantastic addition to the Vikings because Jefferson now has a fellow receiver who is as explosive as him. Therefore, opponents cannot double-team him anymore because it may leave Addison wide open. Putting them on opposite sides will make defenders work hard, especially when they dial up long plays.

Rooms for Improvement In Jordan Addison’s Game

Addison can do the most damage as a slot receiver. However, he must improve at tracking deep balls and creating separation downfield against defensive backs who can stay within his stride. The former USC standout must improve his strength to win contested balls and to outwit physical defenders.

In the NFC North alone, he must compete with talented defensive backs Jaire Alexander, Cameron Sutton, and C.J. Gardner Johnson.

But give him space, and nobody can catch him. His upside outweighs the negatives, making him a potential Day 1 starter. Head coach Kevin O’Connell will find a role for Jordan Addison as the Vikings hope to continue their domination in the NFC North.
