BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 34% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: With catcher, Omar Narvaez sidelined for the next eight weeks, the Mets promoted No. 1 prospect, Francisco Alvarez. The 21-year-old will share catching reps with Tomas Nido but is poised to become New York's full-time catcher in the near future.
Although the Mets are raving over Nido's defensive prowess, which decreases Alvarez's opportunities behind the plate, the Mets have bigger plans for Alvarez in the foreseeable future. He's made just one start since being promoted on Sunday in which his bat showed its potential. It's still early in the season, which gives Alvarez plenty of time to find an efficient rhythm as a big-league catcher.
There will be immense speculation when Alvarez is behind the dish, especially since he has high standards to meet as the No. 1 prospect in baseball. With Narvaez shut down for close to two months, the Venezuelan will need to take advantage if he hopes to see an ample amount of catching reps in Queens this season.
Alvarez was mainly a flier in deep league formats at the outset of the year, but his stock climbed quickly once his promotion came into effect. He's rostered in just 34% of leagues, which makes him a viable waiver wire add in the majority of leagues. Tentatively, he isn't the day-to-day starting catcher, but he's certainly a shoo-in when he starts.
It's still early in the fantasy week, and if you took a sip of the Adam Duvall Kool-aid (breaks wrist during Sunday's play), it wouldn't hurt to invest in some Alvarez stock.
