Will Hassan Haskins Get Playing Time in 2022? Is He Worth Drafting In Fantasy Football?

Tommy Adamopoulos takes a look at what we can expect from Hassan Haskins in the 2022 NFL season and whether he is worth taking in your fantasy football drafts.

Hassan Haskins spent three seasons at the University of Michigan, where he racked up 452 carries for 2,324 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. He showed his ability as a pure runner but was limited as a receiver as he caught just 24 passes for 171 yards during his collegiate career.

Haskins’ best season at Michigan was in 2021, as he finished with 270 carries for 1,327 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground. The real eye-popping moment for the 6-foot-1, 220-pound back came against Ohio State when he ran for 169 yards and five rushing touchdowns.

It was enough for the Tennessee Titans to select him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft this offseason, potentially putting him second in line for carries behind Derrick Henry.

Did Week 1 Of Preseason Help Haskins In Fantasy Football?

Haskins has been impressive during his first training camp in the NFL as he has had success as a pass-blocker, which could potentially lead to him getting on the field in his rookie season. However, how much of a role should fantasy managers be expecting a fourth-round pick to get in their first season?

Will Hassan Haskins Get Playing Time In 2022?

Second in line for carries behind a guy who was on pace for 465 carries in 17 games doesn't seem like very much of a workload. As of now, it looks like Haskins will have a limited role in his rookie season. He sits behind a former 2,000-yard rusher, while Dontrell Hilliard looks to be the team’s primary pass-catching option out of the backfield.

Henry is now seemingly fully healthy and ready to step right back into his workhorse role in the Titans’ offense. That role saw him handle 27 carries per game over the first eight games of the 2021 season. Sure, he is now 28 years old, which is getting up there in running back years, but Henry was still the overall RB1 before he was held out for the rest of the season in 2021.

There might be a fall-off in terms of production, but it doesn't look like enough to expect Haskins to have a significant role in the offense or eat into any of Henry’s volume.

Is Hassan Haskins Worth Drafting In Fantasy Football?

Haskins could be worth drafting in the final rounds for fantasy managers that will be rostering Henry. He would figure to be the primary ball-carrier if the King misses any more time this season, but Hilliard will still be getting the work as the pass-catching option.

The rookie would likely see a role similar to that of D’Onta Foreman in the 2021 season when Henry went down, as from Week 12 on, Foreman averaged 18 carries per game. He scored three touchdowns and had three games of 100+ rushing yards in that run-heavy Titans offense.

He had just nine receptions over that span, so Haskins wouldn't be as appealing in PPR formats should he eventually see time as the primary ball-carrier. Haskins' limited involvement as a pass-catcher could be concerning because the Titans figure to be a worse team than they were a season ago. So, that means Hilliard could see an increased role if they continuously are playing from behind.

Haskins has no standalone value, nor is he a must-draft option if you have Henry on your fantasy roster, but the fact there is a scenario where he handles the bulk of the carries is enough reason to consider him in the final rounds of deeper formats.
