Shohei Ohtani Was Never Close To Being Traded
Shohei Ohtani was "never close" to being traded prior to last week's deadline, per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports MLB. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise but there were rumors that the Angels were fielding offers for the megastar before the trade deadline last week. Rosenthal said that he spoke with several teams that inquired about Ohtani and they told him that the asking price for the 28-year-old two-way player was incredibly high. He also added that Ohtani probably would have fetched more of a return than the Nationals received when they moved All-Star Juan Soto to the Padres last week. Ohtani is set to become a free agent in 2024 and only time will tell if the Angels decide to trade him or not in between now and then.
