The start of the 2025 NFL season is quickly approaching. Dynasty managers are aware of this and have been busy burning the midnight oil trying to find any edge they can over their league mates.

One way dynasty managers can do so is by taking the time to identify aging assets on their rosters that they should liquidate. You never want to be stuck “holding the bag” on an older player. It’s usually better to get ahead of things and get out a year early rather than a year late.

Aaron Rodgers - QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Rodgers finally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after months of speculation. He now slides in as the team's QB1 and is ready to begin his 21st NFL season.

While Rodgers has landed another starting gig, he is a big-time dynasty sell. Rodgers did not look like the same player last year with the Jets. He looked old and seemed eager to check down the ball instead of taking shots downfield. Perhaps this was due to the Jets' subpar offensive line, or maybe he was dealing with lingering effects from his 2023 Achilles rupture.

Or maybe Rodgers is just done.

Either way, Rodgers' NFL career is clearly on its last legs. Dynasty managers in superflex leagues should be looking to move on from the former four-time NFL MVP.

I've seen Rodgers sold for a 2026 third-round pick in several superflex leagues since the news of him signing with Pittsburgh broke. That may not sound like much in return, but it's a potential lottery ticket to land a better asset.

Deebo Samuel Sr. - WR, Washington Commanders

2024 was not Samuel’s best season. The six-year veteran butted heads with teammates throughout the year and was forced to overcome a midseason bout of pneumonia. He only caught 51 passes for 670 yards and averaged the fewest receiving yards per game of his entire career.

This was the turning point for Deebo Samuel this year. His approach with the media was different after this, especially coming off his not enough touches tweet.

Apparently, there was more going on behind the scenes in 2024. Samuel requested that the team trade him this offseason, and San Francisco eventually traded him to the Washington Commanders.

It remains to be seen if Washington knows how to deploy Samuel properly. He has played such a unique role in the 49ers' offense throughout his career. Samuel is not a typical receiver, primarily because he’s not a great route runner or separator. So this could make it difficult for him to find success if he’s not deployed in the same role that Kyle Shanahan created for him in San Francisco.

The bottom line is that Samuel struggled last year, and the 49ers were willing to let him leave. They only received a fifth-round pick in return and took on $31 million in dead cap money by moving him. All of this sure looks like a red flag.

Find someone who still believes in Samuel and use his name value to cash out. Trade returns won’t be the same as they were a few years ago, but they’ll be better if you move him now before the bottom completely falls out.

Aaron Jones - RB, Minnesota Vikings

Jones recently re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a two-year, $20 million deal. It’s understandable why Minnesota would want to keep Jones around, as he ran for a career-high 1,138 rushing yards in 2024. He also caught 51 passes for 408 receiving yards and scored seven total touchdowns. Jones finished 2024 as the RB15 in PPR scoring.

It's also worth noting that Jones touched the ball a career-high 306 times last year, and 2025 will be his age-30 season. Minnesota has said it wants to avoid overworking him this year. To that end, the Vikings went and acquired running back Jordan Mason in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

Mason was quite good filling in for Christian McCaffrey last year as he averaged over five yards per carry and ran for 789 yards to go along with three touchdowns.

The fourth-year back also finished higher than Jones in a variety of metrics. Mason scored better in Next Gen Stats' rush yards over expected (RYOE), rush yards over expected per attempt (RYOE/ATT), PFF elusive rating, PFF rushing grade, and Fantasy Points Data Suite's missed tackles forced per attempt (MTF/ATT).

All of this is not to say that Mason is a threat to overtake the RB1 crown from Jones. However, he is a significant threat to touches and will limit Jones’ upside. The team has made it clear it wants to lighten Jones’ workload and has stated it acquired Mason for that reason. This means Jones' numbers will almost certainly take a step back from his 2024 totals.

Jones also enters the danger zone for running backs as he’s set to turn 31 years old in December. This is the area where a running back’s game can fall off a cliff seemingly out of nowhere. Jones got plenty of volume-based production last year, but his workload is set to be scaled back.

Combine that with the possibility of age-related decline, and the thought of keeping Jones on your roster suddenly requires a heavy dose of Pepto Bismol.

Find a trade partner and do what you need to do. A 2025 third-round rookie pick might not sound like much in return, but it might do the trick. There are plenty of talented running backs available late in rookie drafts this year who are worth gambling on over an aging running back stuck in a potential committee.

Stefon Diggs - WR, New England Patriots

Diggs enjoyed a fine first half of the 2024 season. He posted a 47-496-3 line in eight games in his first season playing for the Houston Texans.

However, he suffered a torn ACL in a Week 8 game against the Indianapolis Colts and missed the remainder of the season.

While Diggs proved last year that he is not entirely out of the picture, several factors complicate his dynasty value moving forward. The first of which is his recovery from last year’s torn ACL. It typically takes players a full year to regain their pre-injury form following this injury. We may not see his best again until 2026.

That brings us to the second issue, which is Diggs’ age. He will be 31 at the start of the 2025 season and turns 32 in November. This is an age where many receivers see a steep drop in production. Combine this with the fact that Diggs is coming off a major injury, and it’s easy to see a scenario where he struggles in 2025.

Diggs signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the New England Patriots this offseason. While that may seem like a good deal on the surface, the team has an out in the contract following 2025. That means this is basically a one-year deal, and Diggs could be out of a job if he doesn’t perform.

All of this suggests the preferred play is to sell Diggs. Find an owner in your league who’s in win-now mode and try to get him off your roster. He might look like an appealing win-now player, but the reality is that there are a lot of risks surrounding him.

Cooper Kupp - WR, Seattle Seahawks

Kupp struggled with injuries again in 2024. He missed five games with another ankle injury. Kupp also tied a career-low with 10.6 yards per reception and averaged his fewest receiving yards per game since his rookie year.

The Rams felt that Kupp's best days were behind him and released him this offseason. Kupp would then sign a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks. While this vote of confidence seems like a good sign for Kupp, there's no getting around his decline in skill.

There might be a manager in your league who's still holding out hope Kupp is the same player who won the wide receiver Triple Crown in 2021. Don't make this mistake. Kupp is a player whom you should look to move as soon as possible.
