2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 4 Running Backs (RB)

Bilal Powell (RB, NYJ):

BALLER MOVE: Stash in all leagues.

ANALYSIS: Bilal's slow start has contributed to him still being available in most leagues. While he is on bye next week, he is worth taking a stab at if he is available in your league. With Chris Ivory banged-up from a hamstring injury he received early in the Jet's Week Three win over the Bills, Powell made the most of his 27 carries, racking up 149 yards on the ground. He added a couple of catches for nine yards, and he should be in more solid control of the starting job for the time being. Ivory isn't expected to be back at 100% any time soon, and Powell should benefit going forward thanks to his solid performance and Ivory's ailing hammy.

Marcel Reece (RB, OAK):

BALLER MOVE: Add in deeper PPR leagues.

ANALYSIS: Reece has a very nice match up this week against the Redskins reeling defense. Reece is a monster, and he has a good opportunity on Sunday to show that he deserves his new contract. He showed his raw talent last season after DMC went down, and he is one of the best and most reliable pass catchers out of the backfield, even with McFadden playing. On Monday night, he showed he can even haul in a touchdown pass from the Raiders' star back himself. A fantastic breaker of tackles, Reece could bust out a big play or two against a Washington team that had an astonishing 30 missed tackles through the first two weeks alone.

Jason Snelling (RB, ATL):

BALLER MOVE: Add in deeper leagues or PPR leagues.

ANALYSIS: Snelling proved Sunday that the RB situation in Atlanta is going to be a real time-share with Jackson out for the next few weeks. Snelling tallied four catches and 111 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown in Sunday's upset loss to the Dolphins.  Jacquizz saw more snaps and had more carries, but the targets surprisingly favored Snelling. Both Rodgers and Snelling are owned in fewer than 25% of leagues, and both have solid fill-in potential as bye weeks are kicking in. Snelling, however, impressed with nearly 5.0 YPC, and is likely to see a more even split this week against the Patriots.

Danny Woodhead (RB, SD):

BALLER MOVE: Stash in all PPR leagues; start in deeper PPR leagues.

ANALYSIS: Ryan Mathews owners already know that Woodhead is starting to see an increased role. Add this to Ronnie Brown's TD vulture, and Mathews owners are certainly starting to sweat. Woodhead has now seen double-digit touches in back to-back weeks, and he put up some solid numbers for PPR owners. With 33 yards on the ground on just five carries in Week Three against the Titans, along with seven catches for 55 yards, he had a solid performance.  That makes 15 catches in the last two weeks on 17 targets. He did lose a fumble in the game, but with Ryan Matthews failing to impress on the ground and only seeing one target in his past two games, it seems Woodhead is settling into a chippy PPR play akin to Darren Sproles. If Mathews doesn't step it up, and Brown continues to be nothing but a 32-year-old goal-line vulture, Woodhead could become the PPR running back waiver pickup of the year.
