Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (glute) is dealing with a glute injury, but it didn't stop him from fully participating in practice on Wednesday. As of now, it appears he'll be good to go against a stingy Denver Broncos defense led by all-world cornerback Patrick Surtain II on Sunday.
Pittman got off to a great start in catching six of eight targets for 80 yards in a blowout win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. However, it could be tough sledding for Pittman in Week 2 if he's matched up against Surtain, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
Patrick Surtain II broke up the only pass thrown his way in a Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans, so it's very probable that Michael Pittman Jr. sees a lower volume of targets in Week 2.
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (shoulder) is dealing with a shoulder injury and was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, David Furones of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Waddle suffered the injury in the Dolphins' 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, but he did return after a brief exit. While Waddle caught four of five targets in Miami's season opener, he only accounted for 30 yards in a rough afternoon for him and his team.
If Waddle takes the field in Week 2, he'll go up against a New England Patriots defense that could be without No. 1 cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring), who sat out Week 1 and did not practice on Wednesday.
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions
Jameson Williams had a tough matchup last week against a Packers defense that didn't allow many big plays in 2024. This Week 2 matchup against the Bears, though, is a bit better for the speedy wideout.
Williams totaled 26 PPR fantasy points in his last matchup against the Bears last season and figures to be more involved through the air in Week 2. That makes him a WR3 in this NFC North divisional battle.
With several other high-end receiving options at Jard Goff's disposal, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and rookie Isaac TeSlaa, it may be hard to rely on weekly fantasy football scoring consistency for Jameson Williams.
Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears
Rome Odunze appeared to be Caleb Williams' favorite target in the Chicago Bears' passing game in Week 1. He saw a team-high nine targets in the loss and caught six of those targets for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Following the touchdown-dependent performance in Week 1, Rome Odunze will be a high-end WR3 against the Detroit Lions. It's also worth noting that Detroit allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to WRs last year.
If DJ Moore fails to gain the trust of Caleb Williams and assert himself as a focal point in Ben Johnson's offense in Week 2, it would be yet another indicator that Rome Odunze is heading for a breakout sophomore campaign, delighting fantasy managers who took a chance on him in drafts.
Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals
It was nice to see Marvin Harrison Jr. get into the end zone in Week 1 to kick off his sophomore campaign. However, whenever he lines up against Jaycee Horn in this Week 2 matchup versus the Carolina Panthers, he could struggle to put up fantasy points.
Jaycee Horn held Brian Thomas Jr. in check last week, coupled with rookie superstar Travis Hunter syphoning off eight targets (5 catches), but the good news is that Horn only shadowed Brian Thomas Jr. 43.3% of the time. Taking all of this into consideration, Marvin Harrison Jr. will be a risky WR2 in fantasy football this week.
With very few elite passing options for Kyler Murray to lean on, and a solid 5 receptions in Week 1, fantasy managers should still expect a high target share for Marvin Harrison Jr. in an Arizona Cardinals offense still looking to hit its stride in 2025.
