Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 6:
Jordyn Tyson, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is progressing in his recovery, but a return to practice has not been confirmed. Asked Monday whether the rookie could begin practicing this week, head coach Kellen Moore responded, "Not right now," according to Mike Triplett, who added that Tyson is expected back on the practice field soon.
The eighth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft has been sidelined since injuring his hamstring during an August 13 joint practice with Jacksonville. Tyson also dealt with hamstring issues before entering the NFL, which helps explain the team's cautious approach.
He has been eligible to return from injured reserve since Week 5 but has yet to make his regular-season debut. Chris Olave has established himself as New Orleans' leading receiver with 39 catches for 537 yards through five games, while Devaughn Vele has added 25 receptions for 252 yards.
Tyson remains an intriguing stash in deeper fantasy leagues, although his availability for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants is uncertain, and his eventual role in the passing game has yet to be established. Those in shallower leagues without IR spots can cut ties if they need short-term help.
Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold offers limited waiver-wire appeal heading into Thursday night's Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Darnold completed 18 of 29 passes for 195 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Sunday's 32-29 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was also sacked five times, continuing an inconsistent stretch since his four-touchdown, 379-yard performance against Washington in Week 3.
Over his past two games, Darnold has thrown for just 363 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, while offering little production as a runner. The matchup isn't particularly inviting, either. Denver held Justin Herbert to 121 passing yards and forced an interception in its Week 5 victory over the Chargers.
Darnold still has enough receiving talent around him to deliver an occasional strong fantasy performance, but his turnover issues and limited rushing contributions make him difficult to trust on a short week. Rostered in 50% of leagues, he is best viewed as a streaming option in 14-team formats or a depth quarterback in two-QB and superflex leagues.
Those in shallower leagues should pivot to an alternative streamer.
Mike Washington Jr., Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. had a very quiet game in his team's blowout loss to the New England Patriots in Week 5, recording just 10 yards from scrimmage on two carries. The 23-year-old is currently averaging five yards per carry this season, but he's seen limited usage while playing a reserve role behind Raiders workhorse back Ashton Jeanty (foot/ankle).
However, Jeanty is currently battling a foot/ankle issue that may be limiting his effectiveness, as he's averaged just 3.3 yards per carry on 88 attempts so far this season. While Jeanty has not yet missed any time, the Raiders could eventually scale back his workload if he continues to be this inefficient.
In leagues where he remains available, Washington Jr. profiles as an appealing handcuff option with some standalone upside for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire. He is a top handcuff in 12+ team leagues, but those in formats with shallower benches should pivot to high-upside short-term plays like Woody Marks.
Adonai Mitchell, New York Jets
New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger) has missed the last three games for the Jets after a strong start to his first full season with the team. Coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that Mitchell hasn't undergone surgery and said the receiver is "progressing faster than we thought."
In Week 2, just before sustaining the injury in practice, Mitchell snagged six of 12 targets for 63 yards against Green Bay to bring his season total to nine catches for 123 yards. He makes sense as an option to stash since the Jets' offense has looked better under Geno Smith and offensive coordinator Frank Reich, which makes Mitchell a breakout candidate when he returns, which could be soon.
The Jets are on the road against the Patriots this week before home games against the Dolphins and Raiders. For now, he is only worth stashing in deep 12+ team leagues given his injury.
Alec Pierce, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is a stash for managers who have an open IR spot and can afford to wait. Pierce aggravated his left heel in Week 2 against Kansas City, the same heel that required offseason surgery, and Indianapolis placed him on injured reserve on Sept. 26. He has to miss at least four games, making Week 7 against Minnesota the earliest he can return.
There is no guarantee he will be ready then, either. The current plan is rehab rather than another surgery, with a midseason return the hope if recovery goes well. Pierce had five catches for 72 yards in two games before the injury, but the reason to hold him is what he did last year.
He finished 2025 with 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns while leading the NFL at 21.3 yards per catch. Indianapolis also re-signed him to a four-year deal in March. Pierce is not a short-term waiver solution, but his big-play role gives him enough upside to justify an IR stash. For now, he is worth holding in deeper leagues but is a viable drop candidate in shallower leagues with only one IR spot given his unknown timeline.
Other players like TreVeyon Henderson, Rico Dowdle, and Deebo Samuel Sr. are higher priority injury stashes.
