Shane McClanahan Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball
The Tampa Bay ace missed the entire 2024 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2023. However, the southpaw was expected to not only be a full-go for the start of the 2025 season, but was named their Opening Day starter.
During his first seven innings of work in spring training, the left-hander looked like his former self as he struck out seven batters across seven shutout innings of work.
However, on March 22, McClanahan was removed from a Grapefruit League contest with an apparent arm injury. Following the game, McClanahan underwent imaging and was eventually diagnosed with an inflamed nerve in his left triceps.
On March 26, McClanahan opened the campaign on the 15-day injured list. However, even though the team did not provide an update on his injury, McClanahan said that he was feeling better but acknowledged that he would miss time.
Shane McClanahan says his arm is already feeling better but there’s no timetable on his return from nerve irritation in his triceps. Waiting for the nerve to calm down. “Granted, situation could be a lot worse. I'm very frustrated that I'm going to be missing a little more time.”

On April 26, McClanahan was shifted to the 60-day injured list, suggesting that he will miss at least the next month of action. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team has yet to provide a definitive timetable on his potential return.
On Tuesday, Ryan Bass of the FanDuel Sports Network reported that McClanahan has begun "throwing-like activities" but has yet to resume playing full catch.
#Rays Shane McClanahan is beginning throwing-like activities, but is not playing full catch yet. “Slow and steady,” Kevin Cash said on his recovery from the nerve issue.

Even though the severity of the injury has not been defined, fantasy managers in standard formats should continue to stash McClanahan on their injured reserve. During the 2022 season, McClanahan enjoyed a breakout campaign as he held a 2.54 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP across a career-high 166 1/3 innings. During this stint, he struck out 194 batters.

In 2024, McClanahan took a slight step back but was still a valuable starting pitcher, posting a 3.29 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP across 115 innings of work.
While he remains sidelined, Zack Littell should continue to see opportunities in the rotation.
Spencer Arrighetti Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball
Spencer Arrighetti was a popular breakout pick entering the 2025 season as he flashed decent strikeout potential during his debut campaign in 2024. In 2024, Arrighetti struck out 171 batters across his first 145 MLB innings. However, he struggled to find consistency at times as he held a 4.53 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP.
He started the 2025 season on a high note as he tossed six innings of one-run ball against the New York Mets en route to picking up a victory. In this start, he served up two walks and struck out five batters.

However, in his next start, Arrighetti took a step back as he allowed five runs, three hits, with a 3:3 K:BB across three 2/3 innings of work against the Minnesota Twins.
After this outing, Arrighetti suffered a fractured thumb after being struck by a ball in batting practice. He was shortly placed on the 15-day injured list.
Despite the injury, the right-hander received positive news as the team revealed he did not need to undergo surgery on his thumb.
Spencer Arrighetti will not require surgery on his fractured thumb. Joe Espada said Arrighetti will be in a cast for “two or two and a half weeks,” after which there will be follow-up imaging to make sure everything is healing. More clarity after that.

On April 28, Arrighetti received more positive news as his recent imaging showed his thumb was healing properly. Will Kunkel of FOX 26 reported that since he has yet to be cleared to throw, Arrighetti has taken this time to strengthen his legs.
Fantasy managers should monitor his status as he could be cleared to begin a throwing progression in the coming weeks if his bone continues to heal as planned. When he does return, the 25-year-old will carry solid SP3/SP4 upside given his strikeout potential.
During his first two starts of the season, Arrighetti generated an elite 36.2 percent whiff rate (99th percentile) with a .205 xBA (82nd percentile). While he remains sidelined, Ryan Gusto should continue to see turns in the starting rotation and carry value in deeper 15-team formats.
Ketel Marte Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball
Rounding out this piece is standout second baseman Ketel Marte. Marte was one of the most valuable hitters in fantasy (and the top at his position) as he posted an impressive .292/.372/.560 slash line with 23 doubles, 36 home runs, and seven stolen bases. He tallied 95 RBI and scored 93 runs.

The switch-hitting 31-year-old enjoyed a hot start to the 2025 campaign as he held a .246/.469/.462 slash line with three doubles.
However, following his game on April 4, Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. On April 9, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo noted that the infielder will miss "a series of weeks" and that they did not have a definitive timeline.
Throughout April, Marte slowly began participating in baseball activities as he took live at-bats on April 15 and participated in sprints on April 24.
During the final week of April, Marte saw live action in an extended spring game and looked quite healthy.
On Sunday, Jack Sommers of Sports Illustrated reported that the infielder would join the team on their upcoming road trip, which began on Tuesday. While he is not expected to play during the remaining games of their series against the Mets, the team has not ruled out a return over the weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy managers should continue to pay close attention to his status, as it appears Marte is days away from his return. When he is activated off the injured list, he should be viewed as a must-start player in all formats and a high-end second baseman.
In 2024, Marte generated a .294 xBA with a .538 xSLG, which placed him in the 96th percentile among qualified hitters.
While he remains sidelined for the remainder of their games against the Mets, fantasy managers should expect prospect Tim Tawa or Garrett Hampson to see time at the keystone.
