When Is Bubba Chandler Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 6 Update)

Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Waiver Wire Stashes, MLB Rookies Call-Ups Sleepers

When is Bubba Chandler getting called up? Will Chandler get promoted in May 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 6.

It was at this point last season that many fantasy managers were wondering when Paul Skenes would be promoted. Skenes had a 0.99 ERA and 45 strikeouts in his first seven starts at Triple-A Indianapolis to start the 2024 season. He was then called up to make his MLB debut on May 11 against the Chicago Cubs.

Now, fantasy managers are wondering when Bubba Chandler will get his opportunity in the big leagues. He has been dominant across his six starts at Triple-A this season and appears to be MLB-ready.

So, when are the Pirates going to call up Chandler? Can we expect him to make his MLB debut soon? Let's dive in and find out.

Bubba Chandler Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

It has been nice to watch Chandler climb the minor league ranks over the years. He finished with a 2.61 ERA and 60 strikeouts in his first taste of the minors in 2022 before struggling a bit in 2023. He had a 4.54 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP across 25 starts at High-A and Double-A in his second minor league season.

However, MLB Pipeline's No. 13 overall really broke out last year en route to a strong all-around campaign. He finished with a 3.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 148 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings pitched at Double-A and Triple-A in 2024. During that season, he held opposing hitters to a mere .189 batting average.

Given how well he pitched last year, it's not a surprise to see Chandler post even better numbers to start the new season. He currently owns a 1.42 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts across six starts at Triple-A Indianapolis. With the Pirates' top prospect coming off five innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts his last time out, he should be in the majors very soon.

Bubba Chandler Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

Fantasy managers could expect Chandler to be promoted in the coming weeks. Skenes made seven starts at Triple-A last year before being called up in May. With Chandler set to pitch in his seventh Triple-A game of the season on Wednesday, the right-hander could be following a similar path as his future teammate.

As a result, Chandler should be rostered in almost every fantasy league right now. He has an elite fastball that tops out at 99 mph and has the tools to be a solid pitcher in the majors right away. The 22-year-old will likely eventually take Carmen Mlodzinski's spot in the rotation, considering the right-hander has a 6.58 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched this season.
