Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson was the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Dotson had an impressive college career, totaling 183 receptions for 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns. He had over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final year at Penn State.
More importantly, the former Nittany Lion star wide receiver had a productive rookie season. He had 35 receptions on 61 targets for 523 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Furthermore, Dotson missed five games because of injuries. Yet, the rookie led the team in receiving touchdowns and finished third in receiving yards.
Following an impressive rookie season, many had high hopes for the former Penn State star this year. Unfortunately, he hasn’t lived up to those expectations. Dotson had 22 receptions on 39 targets for 183 receiving yards and one touchdown over the first seven weeks, averaging five half-point PPR fantasy points per game.

What Did Jahan Dotson Accomplish In Week 8?
Many fantasy players dropped the second-year receiver. He scored fewer than 6.9 fantasy points in all but one of his first seven games this season. However, the one exception came in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The former Penn State star scored 10.7 fantasy points against the division rivals, catching four of nine targets for 27 receiving yards and a touchdown.
However, Dotson had a breakout performance on Sunday against the Eagles. He had eight receptions on 10 targets for 108 receiving yards and a touchdown, scoring 20.8 fantasy points. The second-year wide receiver scored 56.2% of his fantasy points this year in the two games against Philadelphia.
Should I Pickup Jahan Dotson?
Fantasy players couldn’t be happier that Dotson dropped 20 fantasy points, even from their bench. The former Penn State star was a popular fantasy football draft pick among fans and people in the industry.
While the massive performance is encouraging, fantasy players should temper their expectations. Dotson has scored fewer than seven fantasy points every game this season except the matchups against a struggling Eagles secondary. Furthermore, the Commanders have a challenging matchup in Week 9 against the New England Patriots.
More importantly, Dotson wasn’t the only Washington wide receiver with a massive performance in Week 8. Jamison Crowder (19) and Terry McLaurin (14.8) also found the end zone and scored double-digit fantasy points. If he is available on the waiver wire, fantasy players should add Dotson. However, do not start him until we see more evidence that he has turned the corner.
