3 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Yan Gomes (oblique) took 40 swings in the cages on Friday off the tee and in soft toss. He came out feeling fine and will repeat the process for a couple more days before the team figures out the next step. Gomes will likely need to go on a rehab assignment somewhere before he returns to the Nationals. The 34-year-old veteran backstop went on the injured list just before the All-Star break. The Nationals are currently using Tres Barrera and veteran Rene Rivera behind the plate, but neither are very attractive for fantasy purposes. Gomes should return to be the club's primary catcher after slashing a solid .266/.320/.439 with eight home runs and 33 RBI in 214 at-bats in D.C.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
