Starling Marte Might Not Return This Year
1 year agoThe New York Mets haven't offered a timeline on outfielder Starling Marte (groin), and it's reasonable to wonder if he'll make it back this year after being placed on the injured list with a right-groin strain. The Mets believe his groin strain might be connected to his offseason surgeries on his groin. Marte has deflected talk about his health all year, but at this point, the team is hoping that his groin issues explain his plummeting production. The 34-year-old veteran outfielder has been useful for his 24 stolen bases in 2023, but otherwise he hasn't looked like himself. In 315 at-bats, he's slashing .248/.301/.324 with only five home runs, 28 RBI and 38 runs scored. Fantasy managers need to prepare for the possibility that Marte won't play again this season, especially with the Mets well out of playoff contention.
