Reds Sign Chase Burns To Record Deal
5 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds signed right-hander Chase Burns, the No. 2 overall pick in this year's MLB draft, and he'll receive a record signing bonus of $9.25 million, according to sources. The 21-year-old's signing bonus surpasses the $9.2 million that right-hander Paul Skenes received from the Pittsburgh Pirates last year after going first overall. Burns was MLB Pipeline's sixth overall prospect and the top-rated pitcher. He went 10-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 16 starts for Wake Forest in 2024 and led all of college baseball with 191 strikeouts in 100 innings pitched. It remains to be seen where Burns will start his professional career, but he figures to be a quick riser through Cincinnati's minor-league system and could even make his MLB debut at some point next year.
