Red Sox Call Up Wilyer Abreu
1 year agoThe Boston Red Sox will promote outfield prospect Wilyer Abreu to the big leagues on Tuesday for their game against the Houston Astros. Abreu gets his first major-league call-up after going 25-for-59 (.424) with a .528 on-base percentage, .949 slugging percentage, a 1.477 OPS, nine home runs, four doubles, 25 RBI, 18 runs and three steals in 17 games for Triple-A Worcester in August. Abreu came to Boston last summer in the trade that sent catcher Christian Vazquez to the Astros. He's started 35 games in left field, 27 games in right and 15 games in center for Worcester in 2023, but he's likely to be coming off the bench for the most part while Jarren Duran (toe) is on the injured list. The 24-year-old has hit .274 (82-for-299) with 22 homers, 65 RBI and eight steals in 86 games for Worcester this year.
