Rangers To Skip Martin Perez Heading Into All-Star Break
1 year agoThe Texas Rangers plan to skip left-hander Martin Perez's start over the weekend in the series against the Washington Nationals. Texas will give Perez some extra rest with the All-Star break coming next week. He was originally lined up to start this Saturday, but instead, the Rangers are expected to go with Cody Bradford on Friday and Andrew Heaney on Saturday. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw imploded on Monday against the Houston Astros, surrendering six runs on six hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out none in just 1 1/3 innings to raise his season ERA to 4.81 (5.33 FIP). Out of nowhere in 2022, Perez made his first All-Star team with a career-low 2.89 ERA in 32 starts, but he's returned to Earth in 2023 and also only has 60 K's in 91 2/3 innings over his 17 starts.
