The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to acquire right-hander Zack Littell from the Tampa Bay Rays, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. They're finalizing a trade that involves a third team, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Littell, read more...

The Houston Astros will acquire third baseman Ramon Urias from the Baltimore Orioles, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Single-A right-hander Twine Palmer is going to Baltimore in return, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Urias will give the Astros a veteran third base option to help cover for the loss of Isaac Paredes (hamstring), who could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. While Urias doesn't make the same type of offensive impact as Paredes, the 31-year-old has offered respectable production since debuting with the Orioles in 2020. Urias has batted .259/.324/.404 with 47 home runs in 1,755 career plate appearances. He hit .248/.300/.388 with eight homers, 34 RBI, 27 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 290 trips to the plate with the O's this year.--Connor ByrneSource: Jon Heyman

The Seattle Mariners traded right-handed pitching prospect Jeter Martinez to the Pirates in exchange for lefty reliever Caleb Ferguson, according to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Martinez is a 19-year-old who has spent all of the 2025 season starting at Low-A, where he has a 6.18 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 7.7% K-BB% in 62.2 innings. The walk rates have been out of control in Martinez's short time in the minor leagues, and Fangraphs' present command grade of 20 reflects that. He has a high 90s fastball to go with a strong slider, which is a potentially strong foundation for the right-hander. His future will be determined by his ability to throw strikes consistently, and he could eventually turn into a reliever with electric strikeout stuff.--Kyle McCarthySource: Adam Jude

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller has been popular in trade rumors leading up to Thursday's deadline. Surprisingly, though, Keller will "likely" remain with the Pirates, sources have told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Pirates haven't found any offers to their liking, and they're not in any rush to give away Keller after signing him to a reasonably priced extension before the 2024 campaign. Now in the second season of a five-year, $77 million contract, Keller has notched a 3.69 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP, 100 strikeouts, and 33 walks over 127 innings. The 29-year-old has also racked up 15 quality starts in 22 tries, but he has only managed a 4-10 record because of the Pirates' lack of offense.--Connor ByrneSource: Ken Rosenthal

New York Yankees outfield prospect Spencer Jones went 1-for-3 with a strikeout in his second game returning from a back spasms injury that held him out for a game. He appears to be just fine after going 2-for-4 with a double on Tuesday and swiping two bases tonight. The 6'7" lefty hitter has been crushing the ball in July, hitting .419/.477/.946 with 11 homers, seven steals, and a 9:20 BB:K ratio in 74 at-bats. The whiffs have still been at an untenable rate for the season, with a whopping 17.7 percent swinging strike rate and 66.8 percent contact rate. The power upside is undeniable, but there are still plenty of concerns with the hit tool. With how dominant he's been, however, there is a chance we see him in the majors at some point this season.--Kyle McCarthySource: MiLB.com

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (hip) left his start against the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth inning with cramping in his right hip. Ohtani told reporters after the game that the cramping began in the first inning. Despite that, he wound up throwing three innings of two-run ball with five hits allowed and four strikeouts against two walks before exiting with an athletic trainer. Ohtani stayed in as the DH and finished the night 0-for-5. The Dodgers haven't given a date for Ohtani's next start, but it's a relief that he won't miss any time on the mound as he continues building up in his return from 2023 Tommy John surgery. The hard-throwing Ohtani has totaled 15 innings over seven short starts and recorded a stellar 2.40 ERA with 17 strikeouts and five walks.--Connor ByrneSource: David Vassegh - AM 570 LA Sports

The Detroit Tigers announced that they have acquired right-handed reliever Rafael Montero from the Atlanta Braves for minor-league infielder Jim Jarvis. This is the second trade of the season involving Montero, who went from the Houston Astros to the Braves in April. The 34-year-old has struggled to keep runs off the board in recent seasons and has put up an inflated 5.40 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP, 39:23 K:BB, and seven holds in 38 1/3 innings in 2025. Montero is going from a non-contender to a division leader, but he's still unlikely to have any fantasy relevance as a Tiger.--Connor ByrneSource: Detroit Tigers

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitching prospect Gordon Graceffo was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. Left-handed reliever John King was placed on the 15-day IL with a strained oblique as the corresponding move. Graceffo has had a solid season at Triple-A as a starter and reliever, with a 3.89 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 17.2% K-BB% in 39.1 innings. He made 13 appearances with the big league club this year and had a poor ERA at 5.11, but limited baserunners effectively with a 1.05 WHIP and had a favorable 2.69 FIP. He should be expected to take King's place in the bullpen for the time being.--Kyle McCarthySource: St. Louis Cardinals

The Cincinnati Reds acquired third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pirates in exchange for relief pitcher Taylor Rogers and shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura. Stafura is a 20-year-old former 2nd round pick, and he's posted a .262/.393/.411 slash line with a 131 wRC+ in 402 plate appearances at Low-A this season. He's consistently posted high walk rates during his time in the minors since 2023, with his lowest walk rate in a stint being 14.8 percent. There is still a good amount of swing and miss in his profile, and the power hasn't fully materialized yet, but he does have an average future power grade. Stafura's calling card is his speed, as he has stolen 28 bases so far this season after swiping 31 across multiple levels in 2024. The upside is in question with a questionable hit tool and limited power, but his speed is intriguing.--Kyle McCarthySource: ESPN

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitching prospect Braxton Bragg (elbow) underwent right UCL reconstruction surgery on Wednesday, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Bragg is the No. 7 overall prospect in the Orioles system, per MLB Pipeline, and was having a strong 2025 season before going down. He totaled a 1.68 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 25.5% K-BB% across 59 innings between High-A and Double-A. He boasted promising swinging-strike rates along with higher ground-ball rates, but now the 24-year-old is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season.--Kyle McCarthySource: Jake Rill

The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-hander Michael Soroka from the Washington Nationals, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Two prospects - outfielder Christian Franklin and infielder Ronny Cruz - are going to Washington in return. Soroka joined the Nationals on a one-year, $9 million contract in free agency and pitched to a 4.97 ERA over 16 starts and 81 1/3 innings in their uniform this season. While the 27-year-old's ERA is hardly inspiring, Soroka does carry a 3.32 xERA/4.11 FIP/4.04 xFIP with a terrific 87:24 K:BB. He's a candidate for positive regression in the run prevention department. It's also likely that Soroka's 3-8 record will improve now that he's joining a much better team. Soroka is expected to slot into Chicago's rotation, but he also has experience as a reliever.--Connor ByrneSource: Jesse Rogers - ESPN

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has been a stud when healthy. However, the biggest problem has been keeping Walker on the field. He missed six games last year and only played 15 games in each of his first two seasons. The good news is, Walker is healthy coming into camp and has looked explosive on the field so far. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has vowed to run the ball more this upcoming season. That being said, Walker figures to see a heavy workload in his walk year. When healthy, Walker can easily be a 1,000-yard running back, so hopefully the injuries are behind him. It looks like he's going to get a heavy workload, but fantasy managers know the risk when drafting Walker.--Andy WebbSource: Gregg Bell

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange is currently operating as the starter in this offense. The Jags don't have a ton of viable options at tight end right now after the departure of Evan Engram this offseason. It's also worth noting that the Jags have a few tight ends banged up, so Strange has stepped up as the clear TE1 in Jacksonville. He's coming off a sophomore season where he recorded 40 receptions for 411 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in 17 games last season. The expectation is that those numbers will be on the rise with him likely serving as the primary tight end.--Andy WebbSource: Jaguars Wire

Chicago White Sox infielder Chase Meidroth (thumb) left early in a 9-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday after taking a pitch off the right thumb. The White Sox announced that X-rays came back negative on Meidroth, who's day-to-day. The 24-year-old rookie went 1-for-2 before the White Sox replaced him with Lenyn Sosa in the top of the sixth inning. Sosa finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Meidroth, who joined Chicago in an offseason trade with Boston centering on ace Garrett Crochet, has hit .252/.330/.319 with three homers, 15 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases in 349 plate appearances.--Connor ByrneSource: Chicago White Sox

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell is unlikely to move very far up the depth chart during training camp. Recently, Ravens' offensive coordinator Todd Monken said Mitchell would be fighting for touches as the third back. He's not wrong as Derrick Henry is going to be the workhorse back with Justice Hill being able to run and catch passes in the backfield. However, Mitchell has looked explosive in camp, according to Monken. He's making some impressive plays in camp that might earn him more playing time in Baltimore. It's possible Mitchell cuts into Hill's playing time, but it probably won't be enough to warrant rostering Mitchell on a weekly basis.--Andy WebbSource: The Baltimore Banner

Houston Astros right-hander Cristian Javier (elbow) built up to 64 pitches in his second rehab start with Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday. Javier went 3 1/3 innings, threw 33 strikes, and allowed three earned runs on two hits with four walks against three strikeouts. The 28-year-old has struggled with command in both of his Triple-A starts, but that's not a surprise for someone working back from Tommy John surgery. It's at least encouraging that Javier showed off normal velocity on Wednesday (93 mph average fastball) and threw 15 more pitches his second time out. Javier still figures to need a couple more rehab starts before rejoining the Astros' pitching staff sometime in August. He hasn't toed the rubber in the majors since May 2024.--Connor ByrneSource: Chandler Rome - The Athletic

Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland has been making a big splash in training camp. The first-round rookie took first-team reps during Tuesday's 11-on-11 drills. Loveland has been impressive not just on the field, but off the field as well. Recently, head coach Ben Johnson praised Loveland by saying he's thinking more like a quarterback, which is what you want from your skilled players. He continued by saying it's impressive to see Loveland already at this level mentally. The rookie tight end will still have to compete with Cole Kmet for playing time in Chicago. Despite that, Loveland should still see consistent playing time with the way he's looking early in camp.--Andy WebbSource: Fox News

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (cramps) left his start against the Cincinnati Reds early on Wednesday with cramps, the team announced. Ohtani walked off the mound in the middle of an at-bat with an athletic trainer after throwing six straight balls, two of which were wild pitches. There was initial concern that Ohtani suffered a serious injury, but the three-time MVP was able to stay in at designated hitter. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, Ohtani missed all of 2024 as a pitcher. The right-hander made his return to the mound June 16 and has since been effective over seven outings, though he hasn't gotten more than nine outs in any of his appearances. Wednesday's start was the first time he pitched into the fourth inning this year. Ohtani totaled three innings on a season-high 51 pitches (32 strikes) and allowed two runs on five hits with 4:2 K:BB. It's unclear when he'll make his next start.--Connor ByrneSource: Sonja Chen - MLB.com

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (ankle, elbow) should resume throwing in about a week, manager John Schneider said. Garcia went on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left ankle on July 5. Since then, a more serious issue - nerve symptoms in his elbow - cropped up and forced the Blue Jays to shut Garcia down from throwing. Garcia recently underwent a cortisone injection, and Toronto is hopeful that he'll return to its bullpen in late August. This has been an injury-riddled season for Garcia, who spent about six weeks on the shelf earlier in the year with a shoulder impingement. The 34-year-old has still made 22 appearances and put up a 3.86 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP, 25:12 K:BB, six holds, and three saves in 21 innings. If he comes back healthy, Garcia could be an important late-season reinforcement for a Toronto team vying for an AL East title.--Connor ByrneSource: Ben Nicholson-Smith - Sportsnet

New England Patriots All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) continues to sit out practice with a hamstring injury he suffered on Monday. While it's likely that he will be back for week 1 as of now, he would undoubtedly be missed if the injury lingers beyond that. Gonzalez has been a bright spot for the Patriots and ranked 21st out of 222 cornerbacks with a 76.0 PFF grade. With the Patriots' defensive backs seemingly banged up to start camp, they will focus on guaranteeing a healthy Gonzalez when the season starts against the revamped Raiders offense in the early game window on September 7.--Luke DeMarcusSource: Boston Herald

Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass (pelvis) is still dealing with a pelvic issue that is holding him out of practice. After missing his second practice this week, Bills head coach Sean McDermott had mentioned that the pelvic injury shouldn't be a huge concern. However, if this issue were to keep Bass out of the Bills' preseason opener on Aug. 9 versus the New York Giants, they might have to sign another kicker to the roster. In 2024, Bass was outside of the top-eight kickers for the fantasy football season and projects to struggle kicking due to having only two indoor games all season. The veteran comes in as the 12th-ranked kicker in the latest RotoBaller draft rankings.--Luke DeMarcusSource: Buffalo Bills

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired infield prospect Jesus Baez and pitchers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed reliever Ryan Helsley, league sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon. Before the trade, Baez was ranked by MLB Pipeline as New York's No. 8 prospect. The 20-year-old Dominican shortstop played 69 games this year at High-A Brooklyn and hit .244 (62-for-254) with 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 43 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 293 plate appearances. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has some impressive power upside but has been known to chase at the plate. Baez isn't expected to be a speed guy as he ages. Right now, he's more of a middle infielder, but he has the arm strength to eventually transition to third base. A promotion to Double-A by the end of the year in the Cardinals' organization is a possibility.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Will Sammon

Three-year veteran wide receiver Michael Woods II (hand) was ultimately waived from the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday with an injury designation. He suffered a hand injury during last Thursday’s practice. After tearing his Achilles in April 2023, Woods II earned a six-game suspension at the end of the 2023 season for a personal misconduct policy he served while on the NFI list. In 2024, Woods II contributed seven catches for 65 yards, despite playing behind a weak wide receiver depth chart that also suffered injuries. It's safe to say that the waiving of Woods II won't impact the Cleveland Browns, as he wasn't very high on the depth chart.--Luke DeMarcusSource: Cleveland Browns

The Minnesota Twins acquired right-handed pitching prospect Mick Abel and catching prospect Eduardo Tait from the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. Abel, the Phillies' No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made his big-league debut this year in Philly and didn't fare so well, allowing 14 earned runs on 25 hits (seven homers) while walking nine and striking out 21 in 25 innings pitched over six starts. The 23-year-old former 15th overall pick in 2020 has looked much better at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2025 over 13 starts (74 innings), recording a 2.31 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 81:32 K:BB. The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder now has a much clearer path to a rotation spot in the big leagues with Minnesota and could resurface in the big leagues for the Twins to close out the 2025 campaign. UPDATE: Abel will join Triple-A St. Paul.--Keith HernandezSource: USA TODAY Sports - Bob Nightengale

The Minnesota Twins acquired catching prospect Eduardo Tait and right-hander Mick Abel from the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. Tait was considered the Phillies' No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He's only 18 years old but was promoted to High-A Jersey Shore this year after hitting .251/.322/.436 with 11 home runs, 51 RBI and 41 runs scored in 75 games for Single-A Clearwater to begin the 2025 campaign. The Panamanian backstop had appeared in only seven contests at Jersey Shore, going 8-for-27 (.296) with three doubles and six RBI. The left-handed hitter stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds finds the barrel consistently and uses all fields as a hitter. Tait is more of a work in progress with the glove, though, and he probably won't be a realitic big-league option in Minnesota for another couple of years. UPDATE: Tait will head to Single-A Cedar Rapids.--Keith HernandezSource: USA TODAY Sports - Bob Nightengale

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (head) passed concussion protocols after leaving Wednesday's loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park after taking a check-swing foul ball off his catcher's mask in the fifth inning. Alvarez finished the inning but was replaced by Luis Torrens in the sixth inning in the eventual 5-0 loss. DiComo adds that the young backstop will be permitted to fly back to New York with the team, but it remains to be seen if he'll be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the San Francisco Giants after a day off on Thursday. The 23-year-old was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before leaving. Since coming back up from the minor leagues on July 21, Alvarez has swung the bat well, going 6-for-21 with a homer, two RBI and six runs scored. It sounds like Alvarez should be able to avoid going on the seven-day concussion IL.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Anthony DiComo

The New York Mets are finalizing a deal on Wednesday to acquire right-handed closer Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for shortstop/third baseman Jesus Baez and right-handers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt, league sources tell Will Sammon of The Athletic. Helsley, 31, has had his hiccups this year and is sporting a 3.00 ERA (3.51 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP in 36 innings pitched, but he still has 21 saves and 41 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. The Mets were not done fortifying their bullpen after overpaying for Giants right-handed submariner Tyler Rogers earlier in the day. Helsley had a league-best 49 saves for the Red Birds as a second-time All-Star in 2023 and will now move to Queens, where his fantasy value is going to take a big hit now that he's going to operate as a late-inning setup man in front of Mets current closer Edwin Diaz.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Will Sammon

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (groin) was forced from training camp practice early on Wednesday with a groin injury, but FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz reports that it's not considered a serious injury. Johnson is expected to miss a few days, at most. It's good news after the veteran tight end signed a three-year, $30.75 million deal in the offseason to stay in the Big Easy. Johnson is poised to be a big part of new head coach Kellen Moore's offense, especially since there's a good chance both Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) won't be ready for the start of the season while they rehab ACL injuries. The 28-year-old set career-highs in targets (66), catches (50) and receiving yards (548) in 2024, but he only found the end zone three times. Steady playing time shouldn't be an issue, but the Saints' QB situation could. Johnson is a TE2 target in fantasy.--Keith HernandezSource: FOX Sports - Jordan Schultz
