Carson Whisenhunt Strikes Out Nine In Seven Shutout Innings
Carson Whisenhunt tossed seven shutout innings on Tuesday for Triple-A Sacramento, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out nine batters. It's the third straight seven-inning start with at least seven strikeouts for the former second-round draft pick, now with a 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a 47:6 K:BB over eight starts (44 IP). The 94 pitches that the lefty threw on Tuesday indicate he's fully stretched out, so at this point, it looks like an opportunity just needs to present itself, and the Giants' second-ranked prospect should be on the way to the majors for a big league debut. Expect that to happen sometime in June, if not sooner. Managers in NL-only leagues could start considering stashing the 6-foot-3 hurler as he's shown marked improvement in command this season (3.4 percent) to go along with a good strikeout rate (26.6 percent).Source: MiLB.com
San Francisco Giants pitching prospect Chris Martin Removed From Tuesday's Outing With "Elbow Tightness"
Texas Rangers right-handed reliever Chris Martin (elbow) left his outing early on Tuesday against the visiting Colorado Rockies with "elbow tightness," according to manager Bruce Bochy. Martin came in for the save opportunity on Tuesday atread more...
Dodgers Place Roki Sasaki On Injured List With Shoulder Impingement
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Tuesday that they placed rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander J.P. Feyereisen from Triple-Aread more...
Bubba Chandler Strikes Out Eight In Five Shutout Innings On Tuesday
Bubba Chandler threw five scoreless innings on Tuesday, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out eight. It was a good bounce-back outing after allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks in only 2 2/3 innings his last time out. The performance lowered the 22-year-old's ERA for the season to 1.91 with a 1.00 WHIP and 49 strikeouts over 33 innings pitched. He threw a season-high 86 pitches in the contest, continuing a progression toward a major league workload. The righty began the year as the Pirates' top prospect, and while that is still the case, the former third-round draft pick moved from No.12 overall up to the second-overall prospect in baseball in MLB.com's latest refresh of its Top 100 Prospects list. He remains a top stash candidate in redraft leagues and should make his way to the majors within the next month or so.Source: MiLB.com
Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Drake Baldwin Picks Up First Career Three-Hit Game
Drake Baldwin went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals. He also singled, doubled, and scored thrice in his first-ever three-hit outing. It's not a very big sample, but the 24-year-old is crushing major-league pitchers in his first taste of the bigs. He's batting a cool .329 over his first 70 at-bats, but has been even better across the last week. In six games over that stretch (two starts), Baldwin is a white-hot 9-for-14 (.642) with two doubles, two long balls, five RBI, and four runs scored. If he qualified, the Braves' No. 1 prospect would be among the top 1% of batters in hard-hit rate (66%). He's likely to keep getting at-bats if he continues taking advantage of them.Source: ESPN
Atlanta Braves catcher Jose Siri Back To Baseball Activities
Jose Siri (leg) is progressing more quickly than expected from the broken bone he suffered earlier this season. Siri exited a game in early April when he fouled a ball off his shin. Initial x-rays came back negative, but after further testing, it was revealed he had fractured his tibia. The 29-year-old's early diagnosis had him back in eight to ten weeks from the time of the injury, but it looks like he has a chance to supersede that timetable. While there's no set date for him to begin a rehab assignment, it's undoubtedly excellent news. Teammate Tyrone Taylor has underwhelmed at the dish in his stead with a .234 batting average, but his xBA indicates he's underperforming (.266). Siri was able to do some light jogging in his return to the field.Source: ESPN
Tim Britton of The Athletic reports that New York Mets outfielder Clayton Kershaw Set For Season Debut Saturday
Clayton Kershaw (knee, toe) will make his season debut on Saturday at home against the Los Angeles Angels. The eighteen-year veteran has been stuck on the 60-day IL after undergoing offseason knee and toe surgeries. Kershaw pitched just 30 innings in 2024 while dealing with his toe and an elbow ailment, but has overall looked solid during his time in the minors thus far. It's highlighted by an overpowering six-inning showing in which he allowed no hits and struck out four (one walk). However, it's worth noting that was at the rookie level. He should be a nice aid to LA's rotation, and could be a sneaky boost for fantasy managers if he recaptures his form from 2023.Source: David Vassegh
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reports that starting pitcher Roki Sasaki Could Be A Candidate For The IL
Roki Sasaki (arm) experienced arm soreness following his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Friday. Roberts noted that the team is "sorting out" whether it will require a trip to the injured list. On the bright side, it doesn't seem to be too severe, but a trip to the IL is an unfavorable outcome regardless -- particularly when his fastball has recently dipped into the low 90s. Sasaki has struggled early on while adjusting to big-league hitting -- that, combined with the recent injury, makes him a risky proposition for the time being. Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior reported that the team is working on aspects of the right-hander's mechanics, which will hopefully clean up his dreadful 14.3% walk rate. Expect an update on him soon.Source: Fabian Ardaya
Per Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, rookie starting pitcher Hyeseong Kim Heading To The Bench On Tuesday
Hyeseong Kim is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Athletics. This appears to be a regular rest day for Kim against a left-handed starting. Since being called up, Kim has gone 7-for-22 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases in nine games. He doesn't have great fantasy value, but is worth rostering in deep leagues while Tommy Edman (ankle) is sidelined. On Tuesday, Miguel Rojas will cover second base and bat eighth versus left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly ahead of first pitch.Source: mlb.com
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy Sitting Versus Southpaw
Max Muncy is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Athletics. This appears to be a routine rest day for Muncy with a left-handed starting pitcher on the mound for the A's. Normally, Muncy is worth rostering in fantasy formats due to his power ability. However, Muncy has been awful to start the season as he's slashing .186/.311/.294 with one home run and seven RBI heading into this contest. Kike Hernandez will bat sixth and cover third base versus left-hander Jeffrey Springs on Tuesday. Muncy is probably worth holding in deep leagues, but isn't offering much fantasy value right now.Source: mlb.com
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gage Workman Gets Designated For Assignment
Gage Workman (hip) was activated off the 10-day injured list and designated for assignment by the organization. Workman only managed to play in one game for the White Sox before going down with a hip injury. He was traded to the White Sox from the Chicago Cubs a few weeks ago. Workman is a Rule 5 pick, so he'll be offered back to the Detroit Tigers, assuming he clears waivers. Last season, Workman slashed .280/.366/.476 with 18 home runs, 89 RBI, and 30 stolen bases in 126 games in Double-A with the Tigers organization. Workman appears to be able to do enough with the bat to warrant a bench spot on an MLB roster.Source: Chicago White Sox
Chicago White Sox infielder Alejandro Kirk Avoids Concussion, Available On Tuesday
Alejandro Kirk (head) is not in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite that, Jays' manager John Schneider said that Kirk has passed concussion protocol testing and is likely available off the bench for this game. This is good news after Kirk was hit in the head by a backswing during Sunday's contest. The expectation is that Kirk will be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday. For now, Tyler Heineman will cover behind the plate and bat eighth versus right-hander Shane Baz on Tuesday.Source: Mitch Bannon
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Jorge Polanco Heads To The Bench
Jorge Polanco is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees. After a rough 2024 campaign, Polanco has bounced back nicely early this year. He's slashing .327/.372/.673 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 31 games. Despite that, Polanco will head to the bench against tough left-hander Max Fried on Tuesday. In his absence, Mitch Garver will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter against Fried. Garver has good career numbers against left-handed pitching, but Fried has been on another level to start the season. That being said, Garver won't be a recommended streaming option while Polanco can be benched in fantasy formats on Tuesday.Source: mlb.com
Seattle Mariners infielder Jordan Lawlar Making Season Debut On Tuesday
Jordan Lawlar will make his season debut against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. Lawlar was called up on Monday after hitting .336/.413/.579 with six home runs and 13 steals with Triple-A Reno. The 22-year-old is a top prospect that is viewed as a five-category fantasy contributor. His role in Arizona is unclear, but he figures to get significant playing time off the bench at multiple positions. Lawlar struggled during his 14-game stretch with the D-Backs in 2023, but has a ton of potential. He'll cover shortstop and bat eighth versus left-hander Robbie Ray on Tuesday. Lawlar is someone that needs to be rostered in all fantasy formats.Source: mlb.com
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Royals Sign Rich Hill To Minor-League Deal
Rich Hill to a minor-league deal on Tuesday, the club announced. Hill will report to the team's spring training complex in Surprise, Ariz., and is expected to join Triple-A Omaha soon. Despite being 45 years old, the veteran southpaw is giving it another go as he tries to return to the big leagues for a 21st season. The former fourth-round selection by the Chicago Cubs in 2002 out of Michigan doesn't have much left in the tank but could provide the Royals with some left-handed pitching depth at some point this year, either as a spot starter or long-reliever out of the bullpen. For fantasy purposes, he can continue to be ignored everywhere. Hill appeared in just four games out of the Boston Red Sox's bullpen in 2024 and allowed two earned runs on a homer while walking three and fanning five.Source: Kansas City Royals
